STEVEN REED MAINTAINS TOP 3 POSTION IN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Reed Racing team has come away from the weekends (4th-5th May) Nitro Champs at the Western Sydney International Dragway with a good haul of points as Steven Reed consolidated his position inside the top 3 the Australian Top Alcohol Championship.

Piloting his Nulon Engine Oils Funny Car, Steven was a gallant runner up in the Final at the event after suffering engine troubles in his previous run.

He had successfully made his way through the elimination rounds without any dramas until his power plant suffered a severe detonation as he crossed the finish line in his semi-final win.

The team then went into overdrive as they carried out a complete engine change in just 2 hours so that he was able to contest final against fellow Queenslander Brett Stevens.

“I knew the competition was going to be tough at the Nitro Champs, with only two rounds remaining in the Championship everyone was going hard for maximum points,” Steven Reed said.

“There are no easy races so I had the car running right on the edge to give myself the best possible chance but the 3500 horsepower engine let go on me in the semis.”

“My crew did an amazing job though to change it over in just a 2 hour turnaround time and get me on track for the Final, I would really like to thank them for their amazing efforts.”

“I would also like to thank Brett Stevens for allowing me every precious second to get the engine in and to all those that lent a hand.”

“We will now take everything back to the workshop to repair the damage and hopefully go one better at the Winternationals in June.”

Steven's wife Debbie Reed also contested the Top Alcohol bracket at the event in her Nulon Dragster with a mixed weekend of fortunes.

She showed initial promise in qualifying when she became the second fastest person ever in Australia in a Top Alcohol Dragster, as well as breaking through the 400kph barrier, when she recorded a terminal speed of 251.16mph (404.20kph) on her first pass. This also means she is the second fastest female in history in Australia .

Despite this early form though she found it difficult to convert the speed into an adequate elapsed time down the quarter mile strip, making an early exit from the event.

“To run over 400kph is a great achievement for the team, I am now the second fastest person ever in Australian Drag Racing in a Top Alcohol Dragster,” Debbie Reed said.

“However I really wanted to make a bigger impact on the event with my final results. It was very disappointing not to go further and challenge for the event win when we obviously had a really good combination for the track.”

“On a positive note though it has showed we have really stepped the car up and I am now only looking ahead.”

“I have my sights firmly fixed on a good result on my home track of Willowbank Raceway at the season ending Winternationals.”

The Reed Racing team will next be hitting the track for the Winternationals at the Queensland ’s Willowbank Raceway from the 8th–10th June.
