The Reed Racing drag team will be coming home to Brisbane for an assault on the National Open 'Night Fire' event at Willowbank Raceway on January 5/6 ith high hopes after a successful venture at the Boxing Day Drag Racing at the Western Sydney International Dragway.
With some solid results in Sydney, the Reed Racing team now has both of their two entries in the professional Australian Top Alcohol Championship in the top five, with Steven Reeds Nulon Engine Oils Funny car in fifth position and Debbie Reeds Nulon Dragster up in third spot.
Steven Reed fared the better of the two though at the Boxing Day Drag Racing, making it through to the semi-finals before a nail bitingly close 5.77second to a 5.78 second loss to the eventual event winner.
"We couldn't have asked for better racing conditions in Sydney. The weather was perfect and the track preparation was excellent for getting the 3500horsepower to road," Steven Reed said.
"We had the Nulon Funny Car running consistent and fast across both days and it was great to put some solid points on the board in the Championship."
"To go out in the semis by such a small margin when we were running so well was a little disappointing for the team, but it is a good lead up to the National Open at Willowbank Raceway in the New Year."
"Debbie also had a couple of issues in Sydney throwing her blower belt off her Dragster in the back half of the track, but she still managed a good result and we think we know how to solve the problem."
With the focus now switching to Queensland's Willowbank Raceway for the National Open 'Night Fire', the Reed Racing team will be straight back to their Bunya workshop to get their cars in top condition with just 3 rounds remaining to gain vital points in the National Championship.
"The Top Alcohol bracket is the most competitive it has been in years with the duels between Funny Cars and Dragsters, so to have both of our cars running in the top five is quite an accomplishment," Debbie Reed said.
"We are now in the back half of the season as well and we really want to keep the momentum going in 2007 to give ourselves the best possible chance in the Championship race."
"With our local knowledge in Queensland and our proven track setups, we will be putting the pressure on ourselves at Willowbank to keep up our recent form."
The National Open will feature three Group One brackets including Round 4 of the Australian Top Fuel Championship, Round 5 of the Australian Top Alcohol Championships and Round 3 of the Australian Pro Stock Motorcycle Championship over two action packed nights.
