I just looked at "the finished product" photo provided. Sorry, it doesn't help. Isn't this the same board whereon posters complain that the new Funny Cars don't look at all like the cars they represent?
Part of the problem is camouflage. Look at Force's Mustangs, por ejemplo.
There is a character line on the side of the Mustang that parallels the rocker panel and sweeps up at the rear to suggest the panel depression on the side of the earliest Mustangs. It should be highlighted for appearance, in my judgment, but it is attenuated by the paint job which does not follow the car's lines.
I don't doubt the talent of the artists to the slightest degree. Such skill, used to create cartoon paint jobs, could be used to create beautiful cars. The designers in Detroit are busy pushing concepts that pull the best of older designs forward into contemporary forms. Would that the artists who paint them do likewise.
Cheers,
Ed
P.S. I know it's usually vinyl wrap not paint. Please, just don't tell me. The next thing you know they'll be making the bodies out of fiber reinforced plastic or carbon fiber. Then they'll take away our carburetors . . .
