RIP Don Schumacher. There are few, if any, others who have contributed so much to our sport and assured its longevity. Although not actively racing for a couple of years, "The Don" remained involved in the sport behind the scenes. He gave many of today's great drivers - active and retired - a chance to do what they do, and helped shape them into the racers they are. When full ride sponsorships became rare he funded teams out of his own pocket. Not many will do that! A genuine loss to the sport who will be missed. Godspeed!

Thanks, Dave. Don fought the battle many of our loved ones have fought. He and I communicated back and forth online a few times. Seemed like a great guy.

Don put together an amazing group of people, with the absolute very best equipment and drivers. His impact on the sport cannot be overstated.
He autographed this picture for me last year at the Phoenix race.
I shot the picture at the 1972 National Challenge in Tulsa.

Don was an incredible figurehead in our sport. In my opinion, right up there with likes of a Sir Frank Williams, Junior Johnson, Richard Childress, Rick Hendrick, Carl Haas, Chip Ganassi and The Captain Roger Penske.

He touched a lot of people, including we here at Zizzo Racing. He will be missed. RIP.

One of his crew guys Jack Wimer from back then use to live by me and we would relive the old days. Great Racer and innovator.
