I've used D70 and D70s and a D200 and have been happy with all of them. I know plenty of people with various Canon's that are happy also.
The more important thing for getting good images are quality lenses. The first D70 I bought performed poorly, but it was the POS lense that it came with. Once I bought a better lense, I was much happier with the results.
