Re: Rain

While I do not like Vandergriff for what he did to Millican. His stock went up for this. More if he would have decked the pr***.
Even more when the fines come, he tells them "You know where I am at. Are you man enough to come and take it away from me?"

For you defenders of the Safety Safari. Let us here how they did not put cars on an unsafe race track.

Did anybody catch Graham Light poking Vandergriff with the antenna of is walkie-talkie while BV was talking (yelling) at Graham Light after his run? Light obviously didn't like BV yelling at him. Light wanted BV to leave and purposely poked BV.
I'm no fan of BV but, if a racer could get punished for making contact with an official, no official should be able to get away with it.

And for all of you that were not a the race, the Safety Safari absolutely busted their ass to get that track ready! I was at the track from 8am till the time they called the race after Vandergriff's incident, and I've never seen the crew work as hard as they did! And this is from a guy that attends 6 races per year! It had rained for 10 hours straight and hats off to their effort.....and yes, Graham Light was out there scraping the track and spraying VHT!

Every crew chief was out on the track checking the surface and no one up to the point of Vandergriff's incident chose not to race, or didn't think it was not safe to race, so yes, I will defend the hell out of them!!! And don't get me wrong, I am a big Vandergriff fan, especially since he lives just down the street from me!

Nobody knew how bad it would be until they ran on it. It's obvious everyone worked their asses off to try and salvage the day. Rain usually means a no-win deal for a race event.

I know it was the same for both lanes but the whole eliminations should be rerun. As far as the safety safari is concerned they preped the track as good as they could, they didn't know they where fighting a losing battle until the cars started to run. after the first pair ran even a dumb bracket racer like me could see the rubber coming up that's when light should of called the race. With his years of running the show how did he think any class could run on that surface. Lucky no one hit the wall.

As far as I'm concerned, the race should START tomorrow. It was totally stupid to try to run tonight. It was a dangerous condition and hopefully the track will be useable tomorrow. It should be a DO OVER! The Safety Safari tried their best but there could have been a serious accident. I don't blame Vandergriff for being pissed!

By chance I happen to get on the ESPN3 right as that incident was happening. I remember looking at my clock and saying, "whoa, it's late to be starting elims."

And why blame the safety safari? They are just workers doing their job as told.

What a weekend!

the same thing happen to the alky guys in 2004, with the sun artie allen almost wrecked, the same way , I had a light about like Bob and got beat by rich mcphillips he ran a 5.64 and I ran a 5.46 we complained but fell on deaf ears at least Bob got their attention, another example of alkys guys get no respect because we had the same complaint but oh well

Graham Light is a bully and in my opinion puts driver safety as the last option. After the first pair went out he should have called it. I don't think it would of helped BV if he would have decked him, Graham isn't worth it. His snobbish attitude will catch up with him sooner or later. Just my 2 cents.

Were you standing there? Do you know what BV was saying to him? Dangerous to pass judgement either way based on visual perception.

We've seen this before, it's a very tough deal with a lot at stake. I would guess the racers AND the NHRA agreed to go racing when they did, with nobody knowing what to expect. Also, the cars that ran, while on a horrendous surface, each had the same conditions to deal with, so I don't know if they should be re-run. If they did re-run those cars, and the losers now became the winners, think that would cause any issues?

It doesn't matter what was said. Had BV poked Light with a walkie-talkie you can bet he would have gotten a big fine. Bazemore got fined $50k and put on two years' probation for merely yelling at Rick Stewart at the Pomona World Finals a few years ago.
The rules of conduct need to apply equally to the NHRA officials as well as the drivers.
But, I'm sure BV was merely saying, "Mr. Light, there seems to be a little problem with the track. I wish you would reconsider running any more cars."

It kind of reminds me of Indy 2012....

9:45 a.m. - The rain has lifted the rubber on the track and the track will have to be scraped out to the 660-foot mark, even without any more rain - and the rain has not stopped.
The event has been postponed to Saturday, September 8, and Sunday, September 9.

If they saw the rubber was chunking off, they should have said enough is enough.

Really?? All you are sure of is what you saw. Did BV lose his cool and use derogatory remarks or insults? Did he make improper accusations? The only 2 people who know what went down are BV and Graham Light.

All I am saying is that you cannot make statements of fair treatment or equal enforcement of rules without knowing how the "conversation" went. This is something that the 2 involved parties need to resolve not this board based on silent video footage.

Again, it does not matter what was said. Even if it was just an antenna from a walkie-talkie, Light was not justified poking BV with it. Period.

If they don't try and run the race yesterday Light gets roasted by the usual suspects on here for not caring about fans or sportsman racers.

Some people just like to complain. And they didn't even bother attending.
