Pro Stock When It Was Fun

Well now we start to drift into the whole "race vs. show" argument. This has been hashed out so many times, but, drag racing was always about going quicker and faster. Over 60 years, a lot of the really cool things, such as half track FC burnouts, throttle whacks during warmup, dry hops, wheelstands, and many more have disappeared in a quest to be more efficient. Which means quicker and faster. I miss every one of those things and more, but I understand how we got here. Not sure how you put the horses back in the barn.

I remember those days well, I ran a 440-6 1970 Cuda at Bridehampton raceway. I can remember the guys that would show up with PS Vegas and Monza's. There was a lot of grudge racing and a fair share of fights to go along with them. Any one one here from LI?, you would remember 231 and 109, Burger King on weekend nights. anyone here deal with Russ from Russ's speed world? Ah the good old days.
Drag racing at Bridgehampton??? Bridgehampton was a road racing circuit not a drag strip. Drag racing on Long Island occured at NY National Speedway, West Hampton or in the early days at Islip Speedway. Russ was a great guy, RIP who really gave racers a fair deal at his speed shop in Farmingdale. It was a sad day when he was fatally injured at West Hampton.

you are right it was West Hampton, got really run down towards the end. Lots of fights, I was invited to go by Russ, the weekend he was killed. He built my first roller motor, it was a 355 that came out of his Nova.I worked for Grumman and used to stop at the shop everyday on the way in for second shift. I just came across a bunch of pictures from there the other day while looking for some other things. I will try to post some here. Not sure who you new over there, if you remember Mike Magistro who ran the Hemi Cuda. I here he is in a nursing home now.
