Man I like this kid, he's Great to the fans and very personable, but he sure gives up a lot of races on the starting line!

For whatever reason, John Force can do that to lots of people. I think Matt is doing fine, its just a focus thing I suspect. John has won a lot of races by default over his career with people giving away races to him on red lights or late lights. Not as much anymore but this was one of those instances.

I don't think it's Matt. It's just that John Force seems to have that "effect" on people. Look at all the past races where someone would run just fine until they meet Force then they red light / smoke tires / etc.

That's exactly what I meant or tried to say, in a different way.

Not sure if it was last year or the Year before, Matt was Hot as can be but lost to Holeshots 3 straight races during the Countdown. Cost him the Trophy!

He also could have been thinking about the price of beef for a split moment, I know I have been! :) I'm loving this Countdown for sure though! LOVE IT! As we get closer and hopfully some ppl bringing some talent to the table in the last 1/4.

When you reach a level of greatness in any sport, this phenomenon happens.

In boxing it was Tyson. In MMA it was Fedor Emelianenko. Baseball had Clemens and other greats like him.

It's a benefit of being truly great. After awhile, your reputation defeats your opponents before you even have to.

Matt did the best and worst thing he could do and that was to beat himself up doing the post interview. True, John Force has that "aura" about himself over other drivers, but Matt is no quitter and his time will come and soon enough. How many good drivers, past and present have fallen to the "red light" syndromn?. two yesterday alone!

Don Gartlis used to benefit from that on a regular basis as did several others to a lesser degree.

Joe, I thought I had a short memory. It was just last year. Matt could have won it all in just his 2nd year if not for those last 3 races in the Countdown. The bummer is he got rattled by Bob Tasca rather than John Force in the final race, and I hated seeing that.

PS: I like Tasca too.
