Pomona Nitro fields - getting smaller! (22 Viewers)

I am looking forward to being in Pomona for 2 days of the Finals. The TF entry list was at 13, and is now down to 12! Meanwhile, there are 19 FCs entered. Too bad NHRA won't take the three slowest FCs and put them into the TF ladder to partly fill it up!! If it wasn't for Mercier making an unusually long haul, we'd be at 11 TF.

I am looking forward to returning to Pomona after a few years, but the super-short TF field isn't a good way to wrap up the year. Hopefully another couple entries decide to show up.

and today steve densham puts FC list @ 20.
i think the paton TF'r removed name from list? money/parts must not be right after vegas effort?
so far +2 for TF'rs next year, at least that will be committed to running the nhra schedule.

NHRA had better figure out how to correct this TF shortage problem before 8-car fields become the norm. Just a matter of time before the FC class starts to dwindle. These 2 nitro classes have to be made less expensive or they will disappear.

I too have often thought that why not just allow unqualified FC's to be added to a short TF field (If the FC owner agrees). The FC vs TF match ups would be an interesting new twist and with the high number of up in smoke runs these runs would be competitive. At times if the TF field is short a lower budget car shows up,make one qualifying run,and they are in the field while a FC attempts 4 qualifying runs, doesn't make it,so they go home.

Todd was going to run Galot also but is not.

I'd rather see TAD/TAFC be allowed to enter TF/FC races with short fields and receive the full pro payment for how they do, subjuct to TAD owner approval.

This includes allowing a double dip (same car allowed to compete in both TAD/TAFC and TF/FC at same event). In the event of a short field, first dibs go to highest points on the event entry list in TAD/TAFC. If the alky owner declines, the next guy(s) down the list gets the option.

NHRA brought this on themselves via the play off format, rules that strangled innovation, scheduling etc. Torrance is proving the point the format sucks, ran a limited schedule and will still finish in the top ten.

Double edged sword regarding innovation Chuck. Innovation results in faster cars, which everyone agrees we don't need, at least in the fuel categories. And, innovation means more spending, which we also don't need. If innovation can lead to longer living components, which would save carnage and money in the long run, then that's a good thing.

NHRA has brought this on themselves. Resetting the points after teams work their butts off all year to lose in the last few races is crazy. Curious if they did not reset the points where would cars be right now? I know a few people on here track this very close, would Stewart still be in contention ?
IMO it has pushed Capco away, run a limited schedule stay in the top ten if you peak for the playoffs great if not stay home. I wonder how much they saved bottom line in yearly cost.
I can see it getting to the point of sponsors paying per race, if you don't get into the top ten they cut it off.

I'm going just to go have fun since the F/C championship is a foregone conclusion. Unless........

it's 20 some odd races that are all important in their local markets. pick any nat. event; it's just as exciting as any other,
regardless of time of year. what needs to happen is a joining of the racers and the nhra to guarantee 16 car fields and
teams commit to the full season ....... no clue how to do it. i know it's a broken record. IMO i don't think there's enough money in the
sport to pull it off ....... i don't think the C is necessarily a bad thing, but again, if attendance and tv ratings do not increase because of it,
then what is really the object of the exercise? do you really think pomona will be packed because everyone can't wait to crown a champion? i doubt it.
really routing for dallas glenn to win it all though.
