Where are all these "locals" that complain about the noise at Pomona? I don't see any.....

This is a cool photo, Pomona in the early 1950's. That water pump house by the left lane caused problems, from what I've heard. The left lane was a problem for years. If you had the left lane in a fuel car, you usually went up in smoke.

The starting line at Pomona is on the bottom center of this satellite view. Nearly everything to the north, and east and west of north are homes and shopping. The tower and sound walls help, but don't stop the noise. The area is mostly La Verne, by the way.

I think Pomonas days are numbered. It wont be long before homes and shopping replace it. The next logical step would be to make Vegas the first and last race of the season.

I don't see NHRA moving it to a track they don't own or control nor should they. Plus it should be at a low elevation track although I am unsure about the elevation of Vegas. B. Smith and his 4 lane crap shouldn't have that kind of influence.

The FairPlex will eventually have the same problem that every large-scale multi-use facility has in LA, the land it sits on is just too valuable. There will come a point when having 2 drag races, some swap meets, a county fair and garbage level horse racing for 6 weeks cannot offset the pay day awaiting the sale of the land. The locals will be glad to get rid of the crowds and the noise, and if the land as developed into homes, the property tax revenue would more than offset the loss of any other revenue, particularly extrapolated out over time.

The track was their before all the homes!
If I were to guess I would think it’s the home owners on the country club golf coarse!
The NHRA events bring much needed money to the community and its businesses!
As far as traffic and garbage their lying out their asses!
There is traffic everywhere in the LA County Area the fans are a minimum impact!
These so-called upscale crap is a joke!
Those homes dont come close to the Bay Area and Silicon Valley areas!
You can buy two homes in that area for the price of one up north!
I’ve heard rumors of NHRA possibly updating Famosa in Bakersfield which would be fine with me. Less of a trip and I’m sure the Bakersfield area would love the business it would bring!
Pomona is one of the iconic jewels of the NHRA. I wonder if Disneyland would have such a problem with its neighbors and all the traffic and garbage it causes the area!
If Disney ever left that area Anaheim would be a bigger Chithole!

The track was their before all the homes! What does this have to do with anything?

The NHRA events bring much needed money to the community and its businesses! Not as much as new condos and homes full of residence would bring.
As far as traffic and garbage their lying out their asses! Its all about politics and money you know that.

I can guarantee you the city of Pomona does not see it as an iconic jewel or as a big money maker.

This make absolutely no sense at all. You do know NHRA races there twice already?

They and other races across the country don't currently achieve the level of importance that the 2 Pomona races and Indy do. NHRA needs to have total control of those 3 races. Just my opinion.

Prob. as much as the "Upscale" that moved into Englishtown knowing that there was an existing track there. Note to self "Future home owner" do your research before moving in! And BTW, They have an airport there.
Reminds me of an older gentleman I used to work with. Very nice laid back fellow but would get fired up taking about a drag strip nearby his house which is out in the farms, bitching and cursing about how ignorant it was. I had to remind him that track was open for decades before he moved there and would he have been so oblivious to it if it was an airport and wake up one day bitching about the noise from planes.

Regarding crowds, trash, noise and neighbors, nothing brings more people in a single day to the Pomona Fairplex than the Automotive Swap Meet/Car Show every 3 months. I've been there for the last several, and the latest one October 15th there were more people than I've ever seen at the Fairplex.

Here's a link to the events: https://www.pomonaswapmeet.com/event-info/car-show-hours-dates/

Here's an aerial view. Wall to wall people and cars. Can you see your favorite pit spot? And there is still a line to get in from the main pit gate that wraps around Arrow Hwy to Fairplex Drive..

I guess ya gotta hope Pomona stays. Drag racing has been there since 1951. So much history at that track....

NHRA should just bite the bullet and tell them to stick it. The two races there, should go elsewhere. As for the importance of them and Indy. They have just turned into any other race. They were, at one time, but not anymore. Nothing special about them now.

Reserved seating is on the wrong side, once the sun moves to the west side of the track, (which is about 11am,) that's where all the shade is from the hot afternoon sun or at least it's on your back instead of right in your face. If I were a spectator, that's where I'd want my seat to be if I had to be in it all day.

I quit buying Pitside seats for that reason! That Sun blasting you in the face is such a Pain!!!

I could not agree more. Its time to begin a new chapter in NHRA history and move them to Vegas. No residents to complain or curfew to worry about and the weather is usually pretty good. Lots of parking with easy access to and from the track. Why wait its only going to get worse for the Fairplex.

IMHO, Las Vegas, at 2,000 ft altitude in the winter, can get pretty windy and chilly. I don't think it would be a good choice.

I told Todd Veney after we won in 2012 that winning the Winternationals in Pomona means more to us than any other race or division championship, and before we won I would have traded all of them for a Pomona win. Todd told me his dad, Ken Veney, had said the same thing. The Winternationals was the first National Event I ever attended as a young high school kid, and I think that was the year Alan Reinhart was born.

Bottom line is, for many racers life begins and ends each year in Pomona. Moving the events would be like moving Indy to Charlotte, and still calling it Indy.
