PM: 2027 opportunities (9 Viewers)

thought i would start a PM thread right after the MMPS thread. good discussions to be had with both classes.
the big news is world series of PM moving to ennis, interrupting the 3-race winter series at bradenton.
bradenton spent a lot of money lately on infrastructure improvements, now to see one of 3 big PM races leave. wes buck lives in texas i believe.
IMO the world series of PM is wes' DI baby and he wants to see it grow and is making moves to that end. how can you not admire that?
in 2026 PM is racing at 11 nhra nat. events. if MMPS could find it's own sponsor, could they conceivably run at a handful of nhra races in 2027?
what does 2027 look like for the PDRA? haven't read up on it much.

Big surprise to me to see WSPM moving from Bradenton but it's Wes's baby and I wish him well with it. Not sure all the racers are super happy with it but I'm sure he'll get enough to put on a good show.

I think it was nothing more than they both wanted a bigger slice of the pie. Brandenton has run the other two races for a long time and Drag Illustrated jumped on in after covid and they combined the WSOPM into it. It made sense for the racers to run all three. Now Bradenton added a third race in with DI leaving. I think Bradenton will still get a lot of cars for the three races. Maybe not as many as the past few years but I would expect 40+ for each event. It will be interesting to see how many the WSOPM get in Dallas. The majority of PM racers are to the south and east and if they just did the 3 Bradenton races are they going to go to Dallas the following week? I hope so but I have my doubts. I think Bradenton is a better venue being it is a smaller track. With Dallas being a big track, it will look empty if five thousand people show up to watch.

have to agree with you chris. i have a feeling there are more than a few teams that enjoyed the 3-race winter series
to spend that time in FL, or at least leave equipment there for series, then additionally some may be involved with the gators.
i was not aware of the bradenton addition of the PM finals. interesting. bradenton definitely has a cool vibe to it.

I think that Wes is trying to keep things fresh. Remember when he went to Denver? Started off huge, then scaled back so he moved it. It would not surprise me if this in a two or three year plan, then it will go someplace else.

Wes never lets his events get stale, he's always trying something new. And this location will certainly be more favorable for the Midwest PM group.

The second Denver edition had 27 cars which was a lot for a 1/4 mile pro mod race. He tried to make the third year (2019) just as big but there were 6-7 cars that got destroyed in the Topeka national that dropped out from competing. He had to plead and beg to get racers to show up and I think he got only 12. Wes was unhappy with a lot of racers that said they would be there and didn’t show. The main excuse was of the altitude and 1/4 mile. After that he knew to grow it, he had to go elsewhere and run 1/8 mile. I hope the fans and racers show up for him at the Motorplex. Wes is a super nice guy and a great promoter for the sport.
