Anyone have details on the testing at Palm Beach Florida? I know Kalitta was heading down there. It's butt-chilling cold down there and everywhere else..... I'm curious as to what kind of air conditions they end up with.

Bob Tasca said he would be heading down there on Monday ... last year it was not open to the public ... don't know about this year.

When it gets that cold in Florida - it is really cold! If the humidity is up - it's Florida, when isn't it up? - the cold goes right through ya'. My Florida friends have my sympathy, although I'm sure it's keeping the mosquitoes away.

Tony Schumacher and Jack Beckman will both be there. Not too sure about the other Schumacher cars, but I would assume all would be testing.

The reply I got back from DSR was that the general plan was to be out at PBIR, although one or two of the individual teams *might* be in Phoenix later in the month; he (Keith) really wasn't sure at the time.

The press release says closed to the press, so no pics of the new cars???

Bobby, are you guys going to be able to get in??

It is friggin' cold here. I live 30 miles north of Tampa and it got to 20 last night with the wind chill. They had snow and sleet in Orlando yesterday. It's not that much warmer in West Palm Beach and it won't warm up until late next week. My advice to the teams coming down to test would be to keep your long johns on guys.

they closed this testing to the public and media. I dont agree with that. If you want to test without having the people around just closed the pits but leave the stands open so people can watch, its not like its a private testing for one team.

I TOTALLY agree, Anthony. Can someone give a decent reason why they do that?

ANTRON BROWN AND MATCO TOOLS TOP FUEL TEAM TO BEGIN 2010 NHRA SEASON AT PALM BEACH INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY CLOSED TEST SESSION

JUPITER, Fla. (Jan. 10, 2010) -
Following a career-best season in 2009, 24-time NHRA winner Antron Brown looks to add one more accomplishment to his already impressive resume, an NHRA championship. The Matco Tools flagship driver will begin working towards that goal when his Don Schumacher-owned Matco Tools Top Fuel team begins its preparation for the 2010 NHRA season, Jan. 11-15, at Palm Beach International Raceway in South Florida.

All six Don Schumacher Racing professional nitro teams will take part in the five-day closed test session at P.B.I.R. The test will include five NHRA teams and will be the first time that NHRA teams hit the track in 2010. The 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series season begins, Feb. 11-14, at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona with the 50th running of the historic Winternationals.

"Our DSR Matco Tools team couldn't be more excited to get to the track in Florida," Brown said. "To say we're itching to fire up our Matco Tools dragster and smell some nitromethane is an understatement. After the season that we had in '09 and finishing the year with a win at Pomona (Calif.) and now with all the resource we have here at DSR, we're ready to bring the championship home for Matco Tools and all the Matco distributors."

"Our number one goal is to shake down this new race car and get it down the track," crew chief Brian Corradi said. "We have five or six things we want to test and try that we didn't get to last season and we'll work on that too. Even though it was a short off season, we have to get everyone back into the groove of things for Pomona so we can come out swinging at the Winternationals."

Brown is the only racer in NHRA history to win races and lead the standings in both Top Fuel and Pro Stock Motorcycle. The former college track star raced his Brian Corradi/Mark Oswald-tuned dragster to a category-best six wins en route to a third place finish in the Countdown to 1 in 2009. He also earned seven No. 1 qualifying awards and has 21 career poles. The popular driver made NHRA history becoming just the seventh professional driver to sweep the Western Swing at Denver, Seattle and Sonoma, Calif.

"Last year was an awesome year for our team, but we came up short in the Countdown (to 1)," Brown said. "We made some mistakes, but we learned from those issues and that adversity will make our team stronger. We accomplished a lot, but we can't look back on that. We have to focus on 2010. Our team has been pouring in all the long hours this winter at our DSR shop in Brownsburg (Ind.) and we're confident all that hard work will pay off with great success."

Don Schumacher Racing, headquartered in Brownsburg, Ind., consists of six professional NHRA teams: The U.S. Army Top Fuel dragster driven by seven-time world champion Tony Schumacher; the FRAM dragster of Cory McClenathan, and the Matco Tools dragster of Antron Brown. The Funny Car teams are the NAPA AUTO PARTS Dodge driven by Ron Capps, the Valvoline/Mail Terminal Services Dodge piloted by Jack Beckman, and the shelor.com Dodge driven by NHRA rookie Matt Hagan. Since 1998, Don Schumacher Racing teams have won 136 national events in 260 final rounds, and eight world championships.

One team did rent the track exclusively, AJR. So, the rules are up to them and they decided to invite 12 other teams to join them and not allow the public to attend. Seems fair to me since they are footing the bill for the test.
