yes he did. he and gary gerould both. the others did too but those two have been around this as announcers many times before unfortunately. their experience served them well. Their obvious compassion was comforting.

Thank you for posting this... I agree 100%! Great Job Mr. Page! You, Mike, Gary, and Dave did a great job this weekend!

Well done Boys!;)

I had several emails with Paul about an Indy 500 matter and he made it very clear that he has come to love drag racing and it's people. And yes, I think his and Gary's experience really helped in this very difficult time.

Apparently, even while being the Voice of the Indy 500, Paul was prone to occasional "slips of the tongue". I can deal with that in his new role. - Jim

Agreed.

I also believe that many of Paul Page's words of tribute come from his pre-race prep and research rather than a script.

Paul Page was the key player (and showed the same type of steady commentary and appropriate narration) during ABC's LIVE coverage of the CART event back in 1999. Gary Gerould was the other primary reporter at the event.

I have been hard on Paul in the past...and may be again, but today's broadcast was very well done....and still hard to watch with the loss of Scott.

I think he did an outstanding job covering a terrible situation.
I don't doubt that there are still some who prefer to focus on his minor mistakes but watching intently as I did yesterday and today, I came to the conclusion that he has really come to love this sport and it's players or he's an excellent liar. I sincerely doubt it is the latter.
Thank you Paul, Mike, Gary and Dave for a memorable broadcast done with the utmost professionalism. You all helped make a very difficult time more manageable. Thank you.

Maybe I'm in the minority around here but I'm actually a Paul Page Fan. When Marty Reid first started i didn't really care for him, but he kinda grew on me over time and i began to really like his enthusiasm and style. When Paul first started I deiced to cut him some slack because he was new to drag racing and i would reserve Judgment for awhile. Yes Paul still makes the occasional Gaff, but if u listen closely u can tell he does his homework and quite often displays a decent knowledge of the details and history of the sport. Often times while Paul does a play by play describing a run, their will be dead silence for a few seconds while the cars are turning off the track, but in my opinion that is the time the color analyst (Dunn) should be talking and commenting on what just happen, however Paul seems to get the blame for this.

No question in my mind it was Pages best telecast...pre-race prep or not. And Gary Gerould on Saturday night was about as genuine as I`ve ever seen any reporter. God, he was choking up from the start. I`m just glad the ESPN2 guys made it thru the telecasts this weekend and they can all just move on to Norwalk.

Paul and Gary did tremendous jobs this weekend. Watching Gary choke up Saturday was one of the most difficult moments I've had to watch on TV in a long time. They did a great job during a difficult time.

seeing GG fending off tears during his piece was when the reality really sunk in for me...a good broadcast overall during the tragic situation:(

I have always liked Paul Page.

I felt the trashing of another human being here (that has a stellar past in motorsports announcing, most notably the mother of all races......the Indy 500), to be low brow, low class, despicable and disgusting.

The man does his best. He is a decent guy.

Just for everyones info, Pauls replacement as the announcer of the Indy 500 in 2005 was a very unpopular move at that time. Many were extremely critical of his replacement.............................

He loves racing of all types, and I hope he is with us for a very, VERY, long time.

i think the whole crew of espn and the racers that were interviewed did an outstanding job at a hard time like this.

Yes these people are professionals but as we see these unfortunate incidents happen we do realize they are all human.

tony P said they are a different breed, may be a different breed when you get in the car but outside they all have hearts and can all shed tears. The NHRA family is just that, one big family, they are competitors on the track but off the track i dont think there is one person in the pits that would not run to the rescue of another racer. I have been a racer, part of a professional team, and whether its sportsman racing or professional or fans, we are all part of the big family.

Job well done to all on a tough day of racing to all!

I second what Anthony said.

I am normally hard on PP but I was going to start this thread today and I was glad someone already did. I think he did an outstanding job this weekend.

I'm normally hard on Page, and my view of him hasn't changed however he did do one helluva job yesterday and I commend him for that.

Heariing GG break down...I was already having a rough time...I lost it then

PJ, I managed to hang in there until the Kalitta team came to the line and Robert Hight idled away from the tree and slowly down the track. What a beautiful tribute to a true champion...
