That sounds great! and a couple of races ago, may have been New England, on the early Friday session , the track-side sound was amazing on NHRA.TV. Then they adjusted it to "normal", and back to the sub-par audio. I too have a decent surround AV setup, but unfortunately the motor mouth announcers step all over any of the trackside audio, so it's more annoying turning up the volume. When you're at the track and the cars are running, they get drowned out, which is a relief. They seem like nice people, just don't know when to not talk.

You are taking a topic that is SUBJECTIVE and expecting an OBJECTIVE answer. I am not the only one who is fine with it. This is a discussion board where opinions are shared. What I wouldn't have given to have had the streaming technology in the 80s, 90s and aughts. What JOY it has brought me to be able to feel like you are at the event because you hear the actual announcers. So yes, if someone comes for my joy and disparages it, then I am going to defend it. That is the American way, and very much the drag racing way. They have a livetream for EVERY day of a national event, and numerous Lucas Oil Divisionals (damn I wish they had that in the 80s with the amazing D1 crew of Manzo, Newberry, Gallen, Karp and Bell battling it out!). I don't know the details that go into an audio mix - that is not my expertise. But for something that calculates out to $13.75/month, it sounds fantastic to me, and I will continue to defend MY opinion of what is provided. I am not here to be negative - here to share the JOY of drag racing.

Home viewers have a variety of different sound designs in their homes; i would say with a Dolby Atmos rig, you are in the 15-20 percentile. And when you get to public viewing (Hooters, BWW, sports bars), true high-tech audio is close to zero percent. I believe NHRA.TV is targeting the lowes-common denominator as far as technology, for costs and actual need of the client. If they made the investment in concert-quality broadcast sound, their tour production budget would outweigh the return.
I agree Billy. I've posted numerous times that, while it may not be perfect, the NHRA.tv deal is ridiculously cheap considering what you get. As far as I'm concerned, the one fuel session with Darrell Gwynn in the booth made this year's subscription worth it!

As long as the video is good and there is sound, I’m fine with it. I’ve been a subscriber since day one. Originally there were streaming issues and they got them figured out. Sure the sound could be better but I know what the cars sound like. I’m in the minority and enjoy listening to the announcers. The one thing I wish they would improve would be the camera shots of the sportsman cars. Would it be that hard to have a fixed camera on one of the walls so we could see the sportsman cars.
I never had an issue with Alan R. He was a real pro, informative, funny and knew when to chill. As a matter of fact, his announcing on the NHRA.TV broadcasts was the reason my girlfriend became interested in drag racing, because of the aforementioned reasons. She finally got to meet him at Joliet 2 years ago, and told him that very thing.
I am not anti-announcer by any means. I used to not like Bob Frey when I watched him on the TNT broadcasts, but when I started going to national events, I changed my opinion on him completely and looked forward to hearing him at the track. Again funny and informative. Very professional.
