Over 30,000 at CHRR?

Just tune into Bangshift.com and see for yourself.

I'm amazed anyone would show up for these slow old pieces running an extra football field's worth of track.... (insert scarcastic look HERE...)

It ain't just for geezers anymore, folks....

Why do you think Castrol and Ford are there instead of the show?

30,000....more than will be at the Fairplex in a couple weeks for Sun eliminations, I bet.

Damn....gotta admit that is impressive for any race!
I was there from Thur until Sun and it was a pretty good crowd. That event pulls in the cacklefest crowd, the swapmeet crowd, and the big show and nostalgia racing crowd. Plus, the weather was amazing, so i'm not really surprised that it was a pretty large crowd. It was kind of nice to watch cars racing and not have to put my fingers in my ears everytime they made a pass. I always have fun at the CHRR... but, now i'm ready for Vegas and Pomona.:D

Great to see ANY event pull in a big crowd. It can obviously still be done, I was at Maple Gove for Friday qualifying and it was jammed. NHRA isn't dying in my mind, but if they want these crowds consistently, that's what will take some effort. But I think there's a thread or two about that elsewhere...:D

I can't believe how tough Nostalgia funny car has gotten. Even with two heavy hitters like Worsham and Head pulling out at the last minute this was still the toughest competition that i have ever seen in this class. I think the bump spot was a 5.87 and I saw a 5.69 and at least two 5.62 passes. Plus, there were very few oil downs and the weather and the track was awesome all weekend. With all the great racing, the awesome cacklefest, and the cool swapmeet the 30,000 fans should have had an outstanding time.

I don't think the crowd was 30,000 each day more like 7,000 on Friday and 12,000 saturday and 12,000 sunday

Correct????

I don't know, Mark... seems there are a lot more guys WAY younger than me broadcasting, participating and attending this event and many more like them. And I'm a comfortable 52...

Sometimes it's hard to get your point across on a message board. I was referring to the person who was running the show and that was Steve "Big Hook" Gibbs. It's called, "Doing it for Love."

I got there at 5pm on Saturday and just walked in. They had closed down the ticket booth.

Syds Redneck barbecue was out of tri tip. Never saw that before.

I felt the highlight was the fuel altereds. Boyd in the Wing with a quarter mile burnout, and Bradford almost that far in the other lane.

Then the Rat Trap and Pure Hell next pair. The stands just erupted when those cars ran.

Too bad the "person who was running the show" cannot fit in a Friday evening nitro qualifying session for over 50 real nitro racecars at their own "World Finals" for Heritage Series racing.

Well there would definitely need to be some rules defined, since the spread between a "classic" AA/FA and a low 5 sec transformer is big. I like the transformers, because without the stability of a modern FC body, they are still unpredictable. Aside from that, a middle of the road style, like the Nanook recreations would be cool. And, probably a more sensible formula for building a class. Mike Sullivan, who ran those bad Fiats decades ago, built a 5 sec transformer, but I believe has since built a recreation of his '70s style Fiat. I love 'em all!

I have no idea what the counts are on any of the days but no way did Sunday crowd matched Saturdays crowd(never does) but the gave away almost 6000 goodie bags on Friday alone. Saturday was just a huge crowd. The place was packed in the motor home parking area, the staging lanes, the pits, the car show, the swap meet, and let's not forget the stands. All of them packed.
