No Harley penalty yet?!

I'm not complaining that the Harley's haven't been hit with a penalty yet, but Rickie Smith got hit with one in no time at all. What gives? Seems even more unfair to Rickie now than it did before.

I can't see how, with all the flaming hoops the made them jump through to slow them down to the rest of the field in the first place.

Like Hines said, it has been a LOT of hard work that has put them back on top of the heap. If the other manufacturers decided that where they were was safe and comfortable after the rule change, then they deserve every view of the back of the Harleys they get....

Matt's MPH was hanging pretty tight with those Harleys after Q3.... They are making horsepower... I still think they were sand-bagging two years back before getting de-tuned....

1. Eddie Krawiec Screamin' Eagle/Vance & Hines 6.747@ 198.90
2. Hector Arana Jr Lucas Oil Buell 6.772 198.12
3. Andrew Hines Screamin' Eagle/Vance & Hines 6.778 199.23&
4. Matt Smith Matt Smith Racing Buell 6.793 198.06
5. John Hall Matt Smith Racing Buell 6.803 194.63
6. Michael Ray Gottspeed/Star Racing Buell 6.810 197.36
7. Hector Arana Lucas Oil Buell 6.822 197.57
8. Jerry Savoie Savoie's Alligator Farm Suzuki 6.826 196.30
9. Steve Johnson Full Throttle Powersports Suzu 6.839 195.73

When they showed Matt Smith, at first it just seemed like whining. Then when Light would not make a comment it made me wonder if there wasn't something to this.

I get not allowing bigger but not allowing smaller, seems odd. Not sure of the exact ruling but seems like they could block off some.

As long as they allow different combo's, there will always be complaints from one side or the other.

I really hope that they do not penalize them. Hey, it was all the other teams whining that forced NHRA to make the rule change that made the Harleys switch back to 2-valve motors. Besides, you've gotta admit that it's nice to see a bike win that doesn't sound like a super loud sewing machine!

Jump thru hoops? They were just forced to run the same geometry as the other v-twin-pushrods + 2 valves per cylinder.
There is no doubt-V+H are the smartest of the bunch-it wasn't a question of if they got back to the top--it was just matter of when. And that happens from testing + development. And when you start making changes, sometimes you need to go to NHRA to get your new part approved. H-D seems to not have a problem getting the ok-where the other brands can't even get NHRA to answer the phone. George Bryce was complaining the (only) approved scoops on the Buells were too big MANY years ago.

It just doesn't kea since no one else can run Harley's ,that's my problem with it,their just sandbagging like before. What if only force could run fords or kalitta Toyotas

I hope they don't either. It just doesn't seem fair to me that they penalized Rickie after just one race though is what I'm saying. The Harley team deserves the wins for all the hard work. Just like Rickie does as well. Except he got 50lbs added on for his efforts of finding that extra pep.

It is very nice to hear a Harley win over the others.

Hate to bring this off-topic but doesn't Tasca and JFR have an exclusive deal with Ford where only they can run the Ford Mustang bodies in Nitro?

Force did have an exclusive deal with Ford, with the Ford/Tasca connection that was allowed to happen. When Wilk and Tasca teamed up he too was allowed.
If Don, Cruz or anyone else wanted one the answer would have been no.

No one can match the amount of money H-D is pouring into this deal, so my guess will be a weight penalty coming soon. It is needed.

It has always been this way, the team with the most money usually runs up front. Last year when the HD was behind they NHRA didn't add weight to the Buells, they told the HD team to work harder and get your bikes quicker. They have done this and now people want them to be penalized. Hector Jr was running in the same zip code as the Harley's so I don't think they will get any weight added yet.

FYI, Ricky Smith's penalty was based on information all the way back to 2013, which in my book doesn't count as "in no time at all".

Why not allow non Harley's to change the size then? I agree the Harley's have worked their butts off.

I just always want to know the field is level rule wise. Then may the luckiest, hardest working, smartest, richest, whateverest do the winning from there

Personally the "SCOOPS" on the H-D and Buell's are NOT factory........ They are added in . SO where are the "SCOOPS' on the Kawasaki's or Suzuki's! NHRA has DENIED over and over NEEDED head/trans cases/parts that the Suzuki's TRIED to get OK'd. LEvel field my ASS!
Personally i WONDER how MUCh $$$ H-D is throwing at V&H.... FUNNY that the V&H BUILD Suzuki's and they CANNOT get them to run at the top?? Several teams runa V&H Suzuki engines(i am not sure who) and HOW many Suzuiki's are qualifying in the top 3??????? NONE.....
IMO a H-D sounds like a loaded garbage truck anyways.... Buells sound a tad different...
All in the theory of a "BIG BOOM" VS the "Machine gun" of making HP!

personally I really didn't give a fig who was winning PSM until the American bikes started racing.....much like I don't watch NASCAR anymore since Mopar isn't in the fray......

and don't get me started on the way the 2014 Formula One cars sound now.....

The rules have leveled the field. Some, it would appear, don't like the results.

The scoops on the Buell were designed by Star.
