Nitrous racers sitting out NHRA Pro Mod? (1 Viewer)

Bobby Bennett's article details the absence of nitrous Pro Mods at Gainesville. Sigh. Here we go again.
I'm old enough to remember a few years ago when there were nitrous cars, turbo cars, and blown cars and the different combos made for an appealing class.

For those more in the know, how much of this is complaining about disadvantages that don't really exist, and how much is NHRA over-reacting and changing rules mid-season time and again?

Nitrous cars have been dying in NHRA Pro Mod for years. There were probably two last year and Rickie had both of them.

Elsewhere in the pro mod world, a few guys have made the leap to other power adders and haven't looked back.

A handful of years ago, the PDRA bunch decided "to hell with rules adjustments and parity, let's just give the nitrous cars their own class". And now they look like geniuses, considering they're getting 16-18 Pro Nitrous cars every race, and every other sanctioning body is struggling to get 1

FWIW, Gainesville was not the first race without a nitrous car. The Mile High Nationals in 2021 did not have a nitrous entry. Nitrous cars can still be competitive in NHRA. Rickie was last year. He could have finished in second place if he would have attended the Dallas event.

They can be competitive, but at what cost? Nitrous cars are only competitive in either garbage air or if the driver gets a holeshot. With everything being equal, they cannot outrun a pro-charger...
