NHRA Gets Tough on Oildowns

Holy Sh*t! They ain't messin around! $2,500 for the first, $5,000 for the second? And the run gets tossed out? WHOA!!!!!:eek::eek:

So racer A and racer B are close in points and in the final against each other. Racer B must win the event and set a National Record to become Champion. Racer B does win the event and sets National Record but in the process puts oil down, he doesn't win the Championship?

Yeah.. Just imagine if Shoe kicked a rod on "the pass" and left some oil.

It's just for the finals.. We'll see what 2011 brings.

That is how I read it, too. I am not thrilled with the idea of Dixon losing the title this year because of a scenario such as this.

I want to know what they are going to do next year. The thread http://www.nitromater.com/nhra/26622-nhra-apologizes-fans.html discussed oil cleanup technology and techniques. Will the Safety Safari get better equipment and techniques to expedite clean ups? Will the cars get better technology for containing any oil that exits the block?

Could create a low car count again, some lower budget teams might not take the chance??

Do you really think you could run the record with a rod out?

NHRA is telling the teams to keep the oil off the track. I bet most have no issue with it.

I was embarrassed for my sport last weekend and don't want to feel that way again.

You can score a touchdown in the Super Bowl but if someone was holding they take the points back. Same thing here.

I am glad they did something. After being at Vegas last weekend, that was the absolute worst time I have ever had at a racetrack. Saturday was unbareable. There were hard core race fans who LEFT before it was over.

Just great, NHRA's kneejerk reaction to all problems...FINE THEM.
That will teach the nitro teams, they just lose an engine worth ?? $$$, so lets make things worse by fining them MORE $$$.

Think how much this will hurt the low buck teams already strugling to race. Does NHRA think they do this on purpose?? Come on, how about working on a containment system to fix this.

For once do something constructive, instead of DEstructive.

As was correctly stated in another thread, fines will do nothing to deter high budget teams. In 2011, teams displaying a history of creating delays need to have points deducted from their championship standings. I believe that teams with a good record got credit towards future oildowns in the past. Don't see why that shouldn't be part of the new rules.
NHRA's intention in suspending the rules to help teams economically are understandable, but point penalties should have stayed in place.

Doug Kalitta ran the quickest 1/4 mile ET ever with the blower belt off it before the finish line

True Story. I didn't mean a rod out from the tree or anything. Look at Scelzi back when he ran the quickest ever pass at the time 4.48 back in 99 it was hurt the last 400 feet. Or Hight this year in Reading. Ran 4.05 only a few hun off the record at the time and it let go right in the lights or just after. Could have just as easily happened on a 4.01 run. Last year in Virginia Dixon ran 3.78 and blew it up and only ran 297 and change. It can happen.

This really sucks! Now the performance gap between the "haves" and the "have nots" just got bigger.

Alan, you could run the record, pull the chutes and kick a rod out,and be penalized the way it reads--------------------

They can always go nostalgia racing!
I have seen lesser financed teams make clean runs granted they may not run the low #'s but they run decent and hope the higher financed teams make a mistake!
Perfect example of running on a lower budget Mariani against Corey anything can happen.
Vegas was rediculous NHRA had to do something to weed out those guys!

No fines, just limit the teams to two short blocks a weekend. Practically every other form of auto racing will use even just a single short block and run for a hell of alot longer than a quarter mile/thousand feet/ eighth mile, so why can't the 'elite' (term used loosely) of drag racing do the same?

Why does NHRA have to pull this crap with one race left? They did the same SH&T last year with the bonus points for qualifying. They start awarding points at Reading or just prior and Shoe wins by 1pt....just friggin stupid to change the way things are done right at the end.
Wait until '11!
