The NHRA opened the New York Stock Exchange a couple of minutes ago, and had POTUS not been on the mic at Davos, there would have been some backstory as to what the big story behind that was...

I doubt there's any backstory at all. NHRA probably asked to do it, as part of their 75th anniversary celebrations.

Likely nothing to see here.
Looks like it was also for the debut of the reality show on Vice today

I don't know about that. My job (Dollar Tree Inc) got to do this last year, it was a big deal for the company. There was also a hob-nobbing session the night before in Manhattan. I was invited to attend both, but couldn't because I was on leave for surgery. That was a nice opportunity to get some different eyes on the professional sport of NHRA drag racing.

Agreed, My company as well, got to do this last year, it was a big deal for the company. There was also a hob-nobbing session the night before in Manhattan. Good exposure for the professional sport of NHRA drag racing. Why wouldn't you have your Champions on that stage?

I was a kid in NYC in the 70s and I got wind of a display of dragsters and funny cars at the WR Grace building in mid-town Manhattan. There were about 8-10 cars on display, when Grace was the series sponsor (I believe just before Winston was announced).

It would have been great if Austin and Doug could have had their cars out by the bronze bull statue (I truly doubt they would have been able to fire them up in the narrow block though)...

I thought the same thing - TASCA or FORD could have given him a FORD Sport coat instead of a Ford racing long sleeve sweatshirt. Everyone else was dressed for the occasion.
I can't imagine you would have to go far in Manhattan for a sport coat or collared golf shirt purchase. Depending on the hotel you're staying at, they might go get it for you.
