The new graphic setup is real nice but the underlying structure of the site is not well designed which makes visiting NHRA.com a frustrating and slow experience.
Don't want to spend time on all the details, there are people in NHRAs employ who get paid for that but the old "trick" to get straight to results still works. Now it's even better as it allows you to bypass the new and somewhat cornfusing and ill designed iframe setup for results that has screwed up navigating back and forth between the "Main results page" and details per day, class etc. (that problem is due to less than good and very basic HTML-coding).
Put the bookmark http://www.nhra.net/2009/events/race01/results into your browser and you can cut straight to the chase. Manually change "raceXX" to the actual race in question as the season progresses. Real basic stuff and has worked for years but is really needed with NHRAs new web design/structure.
Not sure how wise it is to call attention to that shortcut as the Webmaster could put a block on hitting that URL directly to force all traffic through the main page so to speak.
TO THE NHRA....PLEASE PRETTY PLEASE BRING THE OLD WEBSITE BACK.
QUITE FRANKLY...THE NEW ONE SUCKS!!!
I tried to look at the results tonight and my browser kept crashing. Obviously there's some egotistical web designer that's showing off his/her skills, but it's ruining it for the drag racing community. Not all of us have the latest computers with all the bells and whistles. Why not just "keep it simple stupid" so EVERYONE can enjoy the NHRA website. It's all about "DRAG RACING"...NOT web skills.
To the NHRA...I've been an avid supporter of you, even through the 1000 foot controversy. BUT...as far as the website,...you got it wrong...WAY wrong.
The old site was easy to get the information you needed, didn't have a ton of animation crap and you didn't have to spend half the day searching blindly..
1) I do like the looks of it, the other site seemed cluttered and also just didn't have the appearance of a major sporting body's website.
2) I don't like the drop-down menu's. They respond too quickly, so in the process of dragging my mouse across the page, it obliterates what I may be reading. And that is because the other issue on them...they are too friggin' big. They shouldn't have a sidebar story and image. Just too damn big!!!
3) I am using Google Chrome as my browser and it doesn't look like the plug-in is compatible. It keeps asking me to download it and when I click to download, it pops back to asking me to download the plug in.
