New Starter?

Maybe my head's been in the sand, or consumed by silly season, but I haven't heard of Stewart's replacement. Anybody know? Thanks in advance...

Lot's of rumors, but no "facts" yet! I heard one rumor that their list is down to three, but who knows?

I guess the idea of each Division's starter running their Nation Event was wrong.

Wel.....lets get the rumor started....rumor has it that Alan Reinhart is a front runner to get the Chief Starting Position......Sorry Alan.....lol

Heard they wanted to try that because of the savings in travel. But then I heard the pros objected to the idea of a different starter at all the different events. And you'd have the D7 starter handling 6 events, the D6 starter 1, and so on... Sounds like a mess to me.

Just get it over with and hire Mark Lyle :)

I keep hearing a lot about Lyle too. I wouldn't be surprised if he was on the line in Pomona. I've also heard Jim Kroell (Div 7 starter). I guess time will tell...

OH NO!! I'm sure that ruined his chance. You know that the decision makers immediatly got on here, saw that rumor and hired someone else. Hope they hadn't aready filled his current position.

Like in every sport, when everything's going well you never notice the officials. It's just "clicking a switch". It's when things go wrong that separates the good from the not so good.

Give me an example please! When things go wrong from a starters point of view.
Not trying to start an arguement just trying to understand.

Who is Mark Lyle???

When to shut someone off... (think the TonyS incident). When to give someone a single because the other guy can't get it started. When to run when there's a tiny bit of mist in the air. When to shut someone down because of a minor fluid leak. When to stop people when there appears to be a tree malfunction.

These things require a firm and fair hand. Someone who takes no crap from the racers. Someone who has earned their respect. Someone who treats everyone fairly.

Starter is one of those jobs that it's easy to take for granted until you've raced. Then you see how important some of these "little" jobs are to the clean/smooth operation of the whole event.
