when did this happend?

anyhow, if Shirley has more wins against Don in Drag Racing. Why is she rank 5th and Don is rank #1?? and why do people consider him a better drag racer?

i am guessing at his prime he was better though according to you guys they were 5 and 5 against each other in NHRA.

i know they based it on other criteria, but i thought it was who had better success against other top drivers and how many championships and success as the top criterias

Probably taking into account that he built and tuned his own cars and all the innovations that he made for the sport?

maybe, though Don has won more victories, like 144 national victories.

though John Force along with some other guys have more success in their respected racing should of been ranked higher if we were going by success.

how many of you guys agree with the top 50 ranking??

is shirley a reliable source? lol.

they race 5 times in one weekend??

Raphael , she told me to pass this on to you personaly.

1979 Olympics of Drag Racing Union Grove Wisc.

Two rounds on Friday

Two rounds on Saturday

Beat him in round one. Then won the race.

Also won the race in 1980 1981 1982

She hopes you have a nice day

Yea, I'm sure she does.

What's it like to be the mouth-piece, Dennis?

Raphael wanted details on how someone could race another racer 5 times on a weekend.

They always paired up those two in Qualifing , thus 5 races.

He asked how,..... so I asked her. And she explained.

She would post her self, but there are wackjobs and stalkers.

So I do it for her. Okay

Lets say you go out and build and drive a Funny Car. You match race John Force twice, his car breaks both times and you win.

You then have a winning record against him.

That has nothing to do with how you or him is rated overall.

Somebody said, "She has no interest in that. That would a big step down from Top Fuel."

It's not a big step down from not racing, which is what she's doing.

I am a big Shirley Muldowney fan in that, she accomplished a lot, going against tradition (men-only drivers), had an enviable win/loss record and established herself as a formidible driver, winning 3 championships before any man won two!

But, let's keep this in perspective in terms of accomplishments.

How many championships would she have won if she had built her own chasses, like Garlits did?

How many championshps would she have won if she'd had to build her own engines, like Garlits did?

How many championships would she have won if she'd had to TUNE those fuel motors. like Garlits did?

She was a terriffic driver, and broke new ground for women in the sport, as as such did the sport of drag racing unimaginable good.

No doubt about it!

But, she couldn't do what Garlits did....

His contribution to the sport dwarfs anybody else's... because he DID IT ALL!!!

She was just a driver... a great one, but in the end, just a driver.

I think she'd be great in a blown, injected '08 Mustang, lining up with Garlits for Class eliminations in A/SA.. She always enjoyed beating him; this would be a good way to continue that legacy; those Mustangs are almost impossible to outrun (140 mph!!!)

It would certainly beat not racing at all...:)

so the rankings are based then on other things than just skills. certainly then people can make an argument then that other drivers should be ranked higher than either Shirley and Garlitz

it is good that he made those contributions, though it shows he was very good at other things.

i thought it was mainly driving skills and winning against more powerful machines, success etc.

seems John Force should of been rank no#1

How many races would Force have won if he'd been driving a car that HE built? How many races would he have won without Coil providing the tuning parameters?

Not many of these modern-day marvels (Shoe, Brown, Fuller, etc.) have the ability to build the car, tune it, and then drive it to victory, as Garlits did.

I don't think you can ignore that fact, when handing out accolades regarding the performance history of these people.

He may well be in a class by himself...

To eliminate the other aspects, (chassis building, engine building and tuning) and just consider driving is to only look at part of the picture, IMHO.

This post started with the questio of who had more wins against each other.

That number is a known factor, a certain number.

If the question becomes who's who in the total picture.

What do you factor in. The skills as a builder , a tuner , a driver.

Force did not build or design his car.

Coil did not drive.

Big did all three.

And I am not listing all others because of space limitations

But back to the opening question - Shirley is slightly ahead.

And the Muldowney Mustang thing ....... you never can tell.

I would love to see it. At 1320 ft.

Don said that, LOL that is funny

truly there has to be a site of head to head win/loss records between the drivers, hope somebody can provide it.

that is good to know since I wanted Don to be ahead and be the better driver.

well i wanted to know who was the better driver in terms of driving skill since there are other guys there working on the other aspects, i know the driver has input on that as well, but i wanted to know who had the better driver skills and the most wins head to head.

I guess Shirley needed to drive the same type of cars that Don built and race against Don and see how she faired against him. so far he has won the last meetings against her when they raced in 2003.

I'll let him know you think his reply was funny. ;)
