Somebody said, "She has no interest in that. That would a big step down from Top Fuel."
It's not a big step down from not racing, which is what she's doing.
I am a big Shirley Muldowney fan in that, she accomplished a lot, going against tradition (men-only drivers), had an enviable win/loss record and established herself as a formidible driver, winning 3 championships before any man won two!
But, let's keep this in perspective in terms of accomplishments.
How many championships would she have won if she had built her own chasses,
like Garlits did?
How many championshps would she have won if she'd had to build her own engines,
like Garlits did?
How many championships would she have won if she'd had to TUNE those fuel motors.
like Garlits did?
She was a terriffic driver, and broke new ground for women in the sport, as as such did the sport of drag racing unimaginable good.
No doubt about it!
But, she couldn't do what Garlits did....
His contribution to the sport dwarfs anybody else's... because he
DID IT ALL!!!
She was just a driver... a great one, but in the end, just a driver.
I think she'd be great in a blown, injected '08 Mustang, lining up with Garlits for Class eliminations in A/SA.. She always enjoyed beating him; this would be a good way to continue that legacy; those Mustangs are almost impossible to outrun (140 mph!!!)
It would certainly beat not racing at all...
