Only hitch...how many of us will ever see it ?
Um ... me! I'm heading over in February as our Australian V8 Supercar Series is racing on the road course there, then again the following week in Bahrain where we've been three times before. I'm excited about Abu Dhabi, the venue looks out of this world, while the Bahrain circuit is a fantastic and similar in design to the Grand Prix circuit in Shanghai.
Drag racing in the UAE is very popular and Bahrain has held a round of the European Top Fuel Series - or at least a six car exhibition - before, two or three years ago.
Last year a local I was speaking to told me how much he enjoyed drag racing and pulled out his laptop and started showing me photos of cars racing there - streeters, Pro Mods, etc. In amongst them all he had three, just three black and white photos he found somewhere on the internet of old Australian drag racers from the early 70s, including the Burner, Jeff Burnett (who runs Composite Specialties in Indy) ... he didn't know they were Australian and was surprised when I told him who they were.
Hopefully they'll have the fuel cars up and running in Feb, would make my trip!
Hey Joe, I'm not sure of the Qatar track, which is the one DRO reported on recently, but when the Euro fuel cars were in Bahrain a week before us a couple years ago the drag strip's grandstand was a full. They had a Pro mod show a few weeks ago there, and it looked like their wasn't a Soul there! If Drag racing's popular there, they don't show it!

Went by Zmax yesterday, it still looked pretty good!![]()

Having spent the last week here in Abu Dhabi all I can say is that if you get the opportunity to visit the UAE make sure you do, it's sensational!
For the three days that our V8 Supercars ran on the Yas Marina Circuit they were pumping the upcoming Drag Racing festival. I also spoke with the venue organisers and they were extremely excited about the event and the Schumacher cars and teams - I'd love to be able to stay, but unfortunately can't.
The venue is stunning, built at a cost of about US$1b+ and it shows. It is built around a marina, while my hotel is part of the complex too, overlooking the circuit and marina. Parked outside my hotel window right now are about 20 massive yachts, one reportedly sold for 150 million euros last year!
Fuel cars will absolutely rock this place, I'd love to be here for the first event.
Off to the Kingdom of Bahrain in the morning, we're racing our V8 Supercars there on the weekend, then finally home after that.
Here's a couple shots of one of our cars racing around the road course, one with a mega yacht in the background, the other going past the Yas Hotel.
