can a MMPS, with it's large displacement engine, race in comp? one of the altered classes for V8's?
or if they do or can, do they end up detuning to as to not wreck the index?
(i.e. a car that was not constructed and built around a particular comp class)

They ran them to a quarter mile in Epping. Fun class to watch, I've always liked MMPS.

Are you suggesting that all the NHRA 500CI guys just throw their stuff in the trash and start over?
The cars, engines, transmissions, rears, even wheels and tires are all different.

Didn’t NHRA consider combining the two classes a few years ago? Just guessing they were trying to slow the MMPS down and not speed up the 500 CI racers. I don’t think the majority of the MMPS racers want to go quarter mile. When they were running NHRA I don’t remember more than a dozen showing up.

Just get rid of Camaro Stock all together, most of the 500CI guys are all multi millionaires anyway. Then we could have all those different body styles like we saw at Norwalk's Night Under Fire. And the place will be packed!

NHRA did sanction some testing trying to find a way that they could run both in the same class. They didn't find a formula to do it.

The financial staus of some of the teams not withstanding, nobody wants to make millions of dollars worth of stuff obsolete.

Racers will always chase performance, even at the cost of excitement.

True story, I spoke to a Pro Mod racer a few years ago about torque converters and two-steps. (I'm not a fan) and told him they were refining some of the excitement out of the class. He said: It's more consistant.

I asked: If mufflers and no burnout would pick up .05 would you do it?
He said: Damn Straight!
But would it make the class more exciting?

I was watching some old footage yesterday and thinking how much I miss Dry Hops. I get why they quit doing it, but it didn't add to the excitement when they quit.

Dry hops were cool but I really miss the long smoky burnouts.

Yes the place was packed but it wasn’t because of the MMPS. Jets, Nitro, and fireworks sell the tickets.
