Missed chance for Stott when he bangs wall in Martin

MARTIN, Mich. (August 7, 2007) - Back to back races on the Knoll Gas Motorsports Nitro Jam Drag Racing series leaves little time to wonder about what might have been. Quain Stott's LeeBoy Equipment Corvette leaves the Torco Race Fuels Northern Nationals a little banged up, but not much worse for the wear.

Stott would take his strong qualifying effort (#5 6.123ET 234.00MPH) and face Mark Nielson in round one. Stott would bank a .106 second lead at the tree setting up what should have been a decisive first round win. As the race progressed, Stott's Torco powered machine began to shake. Twice he avoided contact with the wall, the third encounter would cause Stott to brush the wall, leaving a "Martin" racing stripe down most of right side of the car.

"I've got a little bit of a headache from that," Stott explained on the return road shortly after the incident. "But the headache is from losing that round. The points are getting pretty tough out here and it just hurts to have that kind of lead and end up losing the race. If Scotty keeps winning this 'Last Man Standing Award' (5 bonus points for fastest night time qualifying runs) it will be nearly impossible to catch him."

After watching the rain delayed finals on Monday and spending some time repairing the car, the LeeBoy team left for Epping New Hampshire for the Amalie Oil North American Nationals.

"I guess I should apologize in advance," said Stott. "I'm bringing a banged up car to Epping. But there's just no time to fix it before the race. Walley Stroupe is on standby, so as soon as we get home he'll have it fixed up like new."

Stott's Martin mishap is not his first encounter with the wall. "I remember back in 2003, racing my brother Mitch for the championship," Stott said. "It was at Epping that year when I hit the wall pretty good. So, I guess it only makes sense to take this banged up car there. Who knows, maybe we can win one with it like this."

Stott's former teammate, Tommy D'Aprile, will be competing at Epping. He had encouraging words for Stott. "All the races I did with Quain I never wrecked his car," Tommy said enroute to the race. "That's all he ever asked of me. I put in on the beach once in Milan, that was it and I took a lot of ribbing from Quain and the guys about that. So, I've loaded my suitcase up with some purple duct tape. I just want to make sure I do my part to help Quain out," D'Aprile joked.
