ATLANTA, Ga. (April 30, 2007) - Some drag racers live by an old phrase that suggests they live life by the quarter mile. For Quain Stott and his Torco Race Fuels powered LeeBoy Corvette, a quarter mile wouldn't seem like an honest days work. Even though the off season was filled with testing, Stott continues to cover as much asphalt as a LeeBoy paver pulling a double shift.
After a season opening semi-final finish in San Antonio and first round lost in Rockingham, Stott immediately packed up and headed for the AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge contested at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals.
"I was a little disappointed with myself in Rockingham," said Stott. "I had to race Danny Rowe and Jimmy Rector in the first round and I didn't want to leave anything on the table. So, I did something I normally don't do. I set my race car up to race them instead of just setting it up to run my race. Needless to say I couldn't wait to get to Atlanta."
While the AMS Atlanta race wasn't on the Quain Stott Racing schedule, Stott didn't waste the opportunity to get more laps for his team and his car. "We received an invite to come over there and race," Stott said. "I guess you could call it a bonus race for our sponsors. It was a chance for us to get Evan Knoll from Torco and Kelly Majeskie from LeeBoy some more exposure. Plus it gave us another chance to race since we had some stuff we wanted to try."
Racing back to back weekends at different sanctioned events presents a unique set of challenges. "It a little tougher than it might look," explained Stott. "All the rules are just a little different now. Then, if you're racing one of these Corvettes, the NHRA make you throw an extra 50 pounds in there. That will add at least five hundredths to your ET."
Stott's 50 pound heavy Corvette ran consistent numbers all weekend in Atlanta, although his respectable 6.130ET at 235.10MPH wouldn't be enough to upset Joshua Hernandez, who would go on to win the event.
"We made a lot of headway this past weekend," said Stott. "We've still got a little tinkering left to do, but it's not a horsepower issue. We've got plenty of that."
Quain Stott Drag Racing will add another unscheduled bonus stop in southern Georgia again this coming weekend when the LeeBoy Corvette, powered by Torco Racing Fuels competes at the ADRL's Camp Motorsports Georgia Drags, May 4-5 at the South Georgia Motorsports Park in Valdosta.
