Milan

I watched some ProMod today. Looks like more in the stands and Things seem to be working much smoother than Columbus.
Yes some in the stands but not a ton. I was thinking the crowd would grow when nitro ran. The stands aren’t that big either. Most likely will see more people on Saturday.

I was gonna go today but the humidity wasn't in my favor.
Tomorrow's forecast isn't looking good. Copy of the NOAO FORECAST
Saturday
Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. Calm wind becoming south southwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms

From the turnout of nitro and alcohol cars it doesn’t look like you’re going to miss much.

Thank god for the Pro Mods, the fuel show was dog sh*t. Where did they find some of these cars? I know why some of these cars don't even try to show up to a NHRA race. Others have said to focus on pro mod, I think that is a good idea. Logging off to watch the night session in Sonoma, it's going to be records or smoke, can't wait.

I would call all of the alcohol racers throughout the country and ask them what it would take to have them commit to a 16 car field of funny car and dragster. What type of purse would make you a committed regular to this series? I was told by several alcohol racers in the past that money wasn’t a motivator for them because they considered racing a working man’s hobby and didn’t want to be obligated to a particular schedule. It was strictly for fun. Is that still the case? If I were the IHRA the fuel cars would be gone after tonight. That was embarrassing. And someone explain to me how snowmobiles became a thing? Am I missing something here? They need to pare down their classes like the PDRA does and forget about competing with the NHRA. Create their own niche.

I don’t think their intent is to compete with NHRA. It is to provide good tracks, decent payouts, and excellent amenities for lower budget teams, or high budget teams for that matter, as an alternative to NHRA. I actually think they are on course to provide what they intend. it’s a slow start for sure. I just hope they have the resources to stick it out. If they can prove themselves as an alternative, then they will carve out a niche.

Edit. Snowmobiles are a thing! Esp. At northern latitudes, including Brainerd and New England. Those things are badass.

Can anybody set straight what distances cars are running? Seems like:
PM, MMPS = ⅛ mile?
TAFC, TAD, ¼ mile?

FC and TF are 1000’? Just saw Scott Palmer run a 3.88 at 290 something. Kinda hung Lex Joon out time wise, not too bad though. Gerta and Lex might be a little butt hurt about it, but it wasn’t extreme.

I disagree with TJ Jr., the announcer, on that. He tried to make a big deal about it, but It wasn’t that bad. I’ve seen longer in NHRA.

Edit, yeah, lots of the fuel cars need a little practice at actually, you know, having a car that runs.

The fuel altered guys that run a FC chassis, and run well, ought to jump at this opportunity. Toss a body on there and they could be competitive

I’m always a bit hestitant in answering or posting here because I don’t want to discredit my dad obviously. I’m in the Netherlands so not 100% sure what was going on but it’s clear it took a long time. This might also was the reason the car left sluggish and one thing is for sure: Lex needed to shutoff early because you don’t want to run out of fuel with these cars. Compared to for example F1, GT3 or IndyCar which will just starve these cars (alcohol and blown pro mod also) simply detonate when they run out of fuel. For me it shows how far ahead my dad is in this as it’s something that’s easily forgotten when in the car.

Again what was going on isn’t clear for me at the moment, I’m really a fan of Scott Palmer (coincidentally I had a conversation about that with my dad last week), it’s clear that Scott is dragracing because he loves the sport. Maybe there was a bit of miscommunication between the teams, or Scott ran into a problem or something: I don’t know.

We have to remember that John Force and Scott Palmer used to be that way. Palmer was kind of banned for a little while until he could prove he could make a clean pass. It’s nice that the new teams have a place in which they can fine tune their programs. Guys used to be able to match race to get experience.

I agree, these racers can't afford to make many if any test hits. So they are limited to venues like this. But some of the problems I saw with last night issues was stretching it a bit.
I E. Fuel lines leak, Body latches,
Hopefully it's only gonna get better.

It’s good to see Alex Barker, Dan Hix, Jody Austin and Dave Gallegos come out and race. They all had the equipment but not really the place outside of funny car chaos. I think not having an alternative like IHRA the last decade is the reason we now have more short fields in NHRA.

I think people forget that we likely wouldn't have Clay, JR, Hagan, Foley and a few others if there wasn't an IHRA years ago for them to get their start.
