BUDDS CREEK, Md. (September 30, 2007) - Terry McMillen and his Amalie Oil InstiGator Funny car, powered by Torco Race Fuels qualified for one of the toughest Alcohol Funny Car fields in recent IHRA history. Sixteen cars would attempt to qualify for the eight positions available for eliminations, McMillen would capture the seventh in a field that saw track records reset often.
"It truly was some of the most grueling qualifying I've been a part of in some time," McMillen explained. "Making the field at the Torco Race Fuels President's Cup Nationals was an accomplishment all by itself."
"We've seen a lot of improvement with our set up these past few races," McMillen continued. "With the schedule the way it is down the stretch here it's tough to find time to go testing. We need to find some time to go testing for a day so we can sneak up just a little more on this tune up."
McMillen would fall to Mark Thomas in the opening round in a close drag race.
McMillen also spent time talking with Nancy, of the TS Alliance (tsalliance.org). Earlier this season McMillen joined forces with the TS Alliance to help bring awareness to Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. IHRA fans joined in to help find a cure by entering a raffle to win a helmet signed by top drivers. The one-day fund raiser helped bring in over $600.
"We're planning some bigger events next season to help bring awareness of the TS Alliance and all the great things that they do for families," said McMillen. "We're proud to be a small part of what they do."
McMillen pulled double duty again this weekend, piloting the Foley / Lewis, Torco Nitro Top Fuel Dragster. The team made a valiant effort but failed to qualify for the event. "This car is running as good as anyone's to half track," McMillen said. "Once we get it to run the back half of the track as good as the front half we'll have a car that can run with anyone. I appreciate all the hard work my guys put in on that car. It'll pay off soon."
McMillen will also make his NHRA debut this week along side teammate Doug Foley at the Torco Race Fuels NHRA Nationals October 5-7 in Richmond, Virginia. "We're looking forward to racing along side of Doug and supporting Evan Knoll and Torco Race Fuels at this event," McMillen said.
