Massey shooting to bounce back in Indy

CLERMONT, Ind. - Following a disappointing first round loss in Brainerd, Minn., two weeks ago, NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster rookie Spencer Massey and car owner/tuner Gene Snow hope to bounce back at the biggest event in all of drag racing, this weekend's Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. Snow qualified No. 1 here last year en route to a semifinal finish, and hopes to pass that success along to Massey.

Massey, 23, of Ft. Worth, Texas, enters the event fourth in national points. Having three more national events he can claim points at, Massey and Snow hope to make the most of this weekend.

"It's not impossible, but it would be tough for us to win the championship," said Massey. "We basically have to win out the rest of the year to have a shot at the championship. Right now, we're just focused on going rounds and staying in the top five. I would also like to win a national event. Ideally I would have already got the 'first one' out of the way going into Indy, but Indy would be a nice place to win our first."

Massey also feels this weekend's weather forecast plays to his favor.

"We should have a pretty good car," stated Massey. "It's supposed to be cool, so we should have a car that can run good numbers. We just want to compete, hold our own and not make mistakes. This is the big one - Indy."

Qualifying begins on Thursday and will run until Saturday for the alcohol cars. Round one of eliminations will be Sunday morning, and final eliminations will conclude the event on Monday.
