Massey and Snow ready for battle in Sonoma

SONOMA, Calif. - Fresh off a runner-up finish at last weekend's Schuck's Auto Supply Nationals in Seattle, NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster rookie Spencer Massey will be looking to keep his and car owner/tuner Gene Snow's National Championship hopes alive during this weekend's Fram-Autolite Nationals at Infineon Raceway. Massey enters the last race of NHRA's "Western Swing" fourth in national standings, and will be looking to keep up with other championship hopefuls Sean O'Bannon and Steve Federlin this weekend.

Massey, from Ft. Worth, Texas, hopes that the forecasted mild conditions coupled with the near sea level altitude of the track will provide favorable conditions for Snow's injected nitro dragster.

"If the weather stays like it's supposed to be, it's going to take some good numbers to win," said Massey. "Hopefully, we can be one of those cars. There's some awfully tough cars that will be out there this weekend that have ran well when it cools off. Just like last weekend, we just want to go as many rounds if not more than O'Bannon and Federlin. Of course we want to win, I'm just trying to be logical about it. We'll just do the best we can and take it one round at a time."

The veteran Snow is pleased with his new driver's progress this season. What started as a learning year for Massey has turned into a full blown chase for both the national and divisional championship.

"Spencer has shown a lot of poise in the seat," stated Snow. "His reaction times have been incredible, and he's done it enough times, people realize he's the real deal. Everyone has their job. He's doing his as a driver, I just hope to do a little better as a tuner and maybe we can get the win this weekend."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars and concludes Saturday morning. Eliminations begin Saturday afternoon and conclude on Sunday.
