Lucas Posts First Round Reading Finish

Morgan Lucas gave it a valiant try in his first round of competition at the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals only to be outdone by David Grubnic on Sunday at Maple Grove Raceway. Both dragsters left the line even (.100 - .102) in a great side-by-side race with Grubnic just edging out Lucas at the finish line after flashing by the clocks to record a time of 4.592 seconds, 290.57 mph to Morgan's solid E.T. and best run of the weekend of 4.625 seconds, 310.55 mph.

Lucas had qualified his Lucas Oil Top Fuel dragster in the No. 12 position resulting from his run of 4.662 seconds, 299.26 mph in Friday night's qualifying session. In the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel points, Lucas maintains his position of eighth on the competitive roster with now 947 points after the completion of 20 of 23 races in 2006. He now trails Larry Dixon by 65 points for seventh position.

The next NHRA National event will be the Torco Race Fuels Nationals for the return of the NHRA to the Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie, Virginia on Oct. 6-8.
