Excitement is building towards the Northern Territories biggest Drag Racing event when it hosts the NT Titles this Saturday (15th July), with Australian Group One racers Brett ‘The Boss’ Stevens in his Jack Daniel’s Racing Top Doorslammer and Steve Packman in the Glenfords Racing Top Doorslammer headlining the event.
Organisers have also confirmed that this year the two fastest local cars will have the chance to race door handle to door handle with some of the sports elite by taking on Stevens and Packman in their 3000 horsepower Falcon Doorslammers on the final runs of the night.
One of the local favourites expected to battle it out down the quarter mile strip with the stars is reining NT Titles Supercharged Outlaws Champion Matthew Abel, who will be competing for outright honours as the fastest car in the NT again in his Supercharged Ford Capri.
“Last year I took home the winner trophy in the Supercharged Outlaws bracket and I am focused on retaining that title on Saturday,” Abel said.
“I am also excited about the prospect of racing against the Top Doorslammers and will definitely be shooting for one of the positions to take on Brett (Stevens) or Steve (Packman).”
“The chance to race against some of the sports best is a once in a lifetime opportunity so it would be great to line up against them.”
“With my local track knowledge at Hidden Valley I reckon I will give them a run for their money as well. I have a PB of 6.96 seconds at Hidden Valley compared to Brett’s 6.66, so there is nothing in it. If either one of them make a mistake on the unfamiliar strip I will be ready.”

“I have been to Darwin on a few occasions as Crew Chief for Brett Stevens when he has raced in the past so I have a reasonable idea of what to expect, but this is my first trip up as a driver,” Packman said.
“We have done a bit more testing in the Falcons though and now seem to have a good handle on the new chassis and engine combinations.”
“Both Brett and myself will be looking at running low numbers at the Titles with my ultimate aim for the event is to have a real go at beating ‘The Boss’!“
As well as witnessing Stevens and Packman running down the quarter mile in 6 seconds at speeds of over 380 km/h, the Brett Stevens Racing team will also be on display throughout the event for fans to get some merchandise and memorabilia.
