TOP DOORSLAMMER STARS TO RACE AT BENARABY

Benaraby Raceway just outside Gladstone, QLD, is gearing up for what is expected to be one of its biggest race days of the year when it hosts a Top Doorslammer exhibition featuring some of the countries leading Drag Racers as a part of Round 3 of the local Track Championship on July 14.

The major draw card for the event is former National Champion and professional racer Brett ‘The Boss’ Stevens and his 3000 horsepower Jack Daniel’s Racing Top Doorslammer.

Stevens will be competing at the event a little battered and bruised after hitting the wall at approximately 200 mph when match racing at the NT Drag Racing Titles last weekend in Darwin, however the dedicated racer and showman is adamant the show will go on.

“I am a little bruised after last weekend’s accident but you can be sure I will still be up at Benaraby Raceway for the fans with some of the countries fastest Top Doorslammers,” Stevens said.

“We aren’t going have the pressure of having to qualify or having to win to go through to the next round either so we will be able to try a few different things to get to other end even quicker.”

“It will be a great experience for the crowds to witness the sights, sounds and smells of this level of professional racing that normally doesn’t come to places like this.”

“I will also have my custom built Jack Daniel’s Racing Burnout Ute out to tear apart a set of slicks which should also help keep everyone entertained.”

Taking it up to the ‘The Boss’ in the one off night of Doorslammer exhibition racing will be Stevens team mate Steve Packman in his SP Racing Falcon, who was the leading rookie in the 2006/2007 Australian Top Doorslammer Championship.

In what is shaping up to be a spectacular series of grudge matches between the two stars, there is also a good chance of the Benaraby Raceway track record being broken with it currently standing at 6.61 seconds at 199 mph (320 kph).

With Stevens having a personal best time of 6.01 seconds at 242 mph (389 kph) and Packman on the books at running 6.21 seconds at 233 mph (376 kph), fans may get to see the first ever 200 mph run at the quarter mile strip.

“If the track and weather is right there is certainly a good chance that one of us (Stevens or Packman) will break both the ET and MPH records,” Packman said.

“Both of our cars are capable of running the numbers so it will just be a case of if we can dial in some setups to the local conditions to get the 3000 horsepower of the cars to the track.”

“Neither of us wants to lose either so you can be sure that there is going to be some fast side by side races with neither of us giving an inch. I think record setting performances are definitely on the cards.”
