Lewis hopes strong testing leads to strong finish in Noble

NOBLE, Okla. - NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster rookie Brandon 'The Kid' Lewis hopes to finish what has been an up and down year on a high note during this weekend's Division 4 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series closer at Thunder Valley Raceway Park just outside of Oklahoma City, Okla. After two national event runner-up finishes in Topeka, Kan., and Sonoma, Calif., the team was plagued by a variety of problems. Extensive testing paid off with solid numbers once again, giving the ATTA Tank backed team renewed hope heading into their final two events of the season.

Lewis, 22, purchased the 2005 World Championship winning car from Tom Conway, who still serves as tuning consultant, at midseason after competing in the Top Alcohol Funny Car class for the past two seasons. Based just a couple hours down the road in Broken Arrow, Okla., this weekend's event is the team's closest to home, and they hope to make a strong showing in front of their homestate fans.

"Nobody could understand why the car wasn't running," said Lewis. "We took the car out to Tulsa and changed a few things pretty drastically, and the car finally responded. We were only making 1/8 mile runs, but it went 220 mph on our last pass, which translates to about a mid 5.30, so we have the car back where it needs to be. The air was above 3000 ft corrected, so that was a plus to do it in bad air. If it was in good air, we might just think it ran good because of the air. We're going to make a few test runs on Thursday in Noble, so hopefully we can get this car back on track."

Lewis is also pleased to announce ATTA Aluminum Truck Tanks and Accessories has extended their sponsorship to the end of the 2007 season.

"We had ATTA with us last year on the Funny Car and they came back on board with us a few weeks ago in Dallas," stated Lewis. "We're extremely pleased to have Gene Hackett and the guys from ATTA back on board, so hopefully we can put this car in our first winner's circle for them and our associate sponsors UniFirst, Lucas Oil and A-1 Auto Body."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars, with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
