Lewis hoping to start the year strong in Gainesville (1 Viewer)

[coverattach=1]GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After a promising test session two weeks ago in Houston, NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver Brandon Lewis and his family’s TigerFlow Systems sponsored team hope to make a strong debut to the 2009 season during this weekend’s ACDelco Gatornationals at the famed Gainesville Raceway in Gainesville, Fla. This weekend will mark the competition debut with new Crew Chief Joe Monden.

Lewis, 23, of Broken Arrow, Okla., is excited about the potential of his new Joe Monden chassis after testing showed stronger early numbers than last year’s car.

“We’re just going to have to figure out this new car,” said Lewis. “Joe has really been studying the data from the test session to see what the car wants. We also put a new Rage fuel pump on the car that is putting a ton of fuel in the motor; we just need to keep taking a little bit away. That’s going to be our biggest challenge this weekend. We ran a .918 60’ in Houston, so I think the car is going to work well.

“Houston was a good weekend for us,” Lewis added. “It gave us enough data to come up with a plan for Gainesville. At least we didn’t have to go there completely blind with a new car.”

Lewis will also test a new tire compound developed by Hoosier Tire this weekend.

“Hoosier is going to have us a new tire to test in Gainesville as well,” Lewis commented. “It’s a little softer than what Joe ran on Aaron Tatum’s car last year. Hopefully we can get everything to line up and get this car in the winner’s circle for TigerFlow, Morrison Construction, Lucas Oil, Unifirst and A-1 Auto Body.”

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with two sessions, followed by one final session Saturday morning. Eliminations begin with round one on Saturday evening and final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
