Love him or hate him (my perception is that he is arrogant, however I have never met him) he certainly knows his way around a modern fuel car and is a great fill for the position.

He is not afraid of putting his point forward and speaking his mind, something we all like, right?

are you kidding me....Lee Kardashian couldn't stay out of the lime light if the sun went out

If he had been hired by NHRA earlier in the season, they wouldn't have had the FC body bracing/tether debacle that could have killed Johnny Gray.....

Maybe if you read this article Bob, you wouldn't make that statement.

NHRA Story » Cooperative venture between NHRA, Funny Car teams leads to new latch system

Or maybe you think Beard is smarter than the group that came up with the tethering?

"Led by NHRA Vice President-Technical Operations Glen Gray and Director of Engineering Timothy White, members of the Don Schumacher Racing, John Force Racing, Kalitta Motorsports, and Head Racing teams, along with industry experts including chassis builder Murf McKinney and renowned composite manufacturer Aerodine, worked together to design a latching and retention system to work under the demanding conditions. The group met numerous times in person, including visits to the various teams’ fabrication departments, and participated in numerous teleconferences."

If he helps the NHRA come up with a rule package that allows the nitro teams to return to 1/4 mile racing many people around here will be jumping through hoops and calling him "god".

This is just my opinion and many of you may disagree, but as many bridges as Beard has burned, I would think he would have a difficult time convincing many of the teams to go in a certain direction. Especially since a lot of these decisions are done in a cooperative manner with the owners and/or fuel crew chiefs!

My thoughts: Lets see if NHRA gives him any teeth. The big tell will be how many changes are made before he gets told no...thats when the next press release will read "Lee Beard has reliquished his post at NHRA..."

Believe me Bob, I saw it!

You can't put it on the NHRA solomente........there were a lot of smart individuals that played a role in that decision! Hindsight is 20/20, and thinking that Beard would have had the perfect solution and prevented that is saying a lot! Beard is a smart guy, but it's not one person's decision!

I don't recall reading that returning to 1/4mi was his job assignment. In fact the article didn't
say what his goal is.....

Never said that was the goal. I was making the comment based on the comment that said they were thrilled with Lee going to the NHRA. IMO, the only way the majority on this board will be happy with him is if he helps guide the NHRA back to 1/4 nitro racing. I personally am not in favor of that, but that is for a different discussion.

Tree'd me on that one, too.
