LE Tonglet reached back for a taste of his 2010 season in Sunday’s first round of the Arizona Nationals when he defeated Andrew Hines at Firebird International Raceway.
This time, however, there was no Full Throttle Series Pro Stock Motorcycle championship hanging in the balance for either driver like there was when Tonglet beat Hines three of the four times they tangled in the final round of the six-race Countdown to the Championship playoffs.
“We did get a round win, that was good,” said Tonglet after he capitalized on his .019-second reaction time to Hines’ .066. He wasn’t challenged and the Nitro Fish/Tonglet Racing Suzuki GSXR lit the win light in 6.998 seconds at 191.43 mph to a 7.305 at 193.49 mph.
“We didn’t have to struggle to qualify here, either,” he continued, “but we have been struggling, and that hasn’t been any fun.”
Tonglet’s race day ended in the quarterfinals when Hector Arana Jr. won with a 6.936 at 193.32 to a 7.051 at 189.90.
Only two more races remain on the Full Throttle Series schedule, at Las Vegas (Oct. 28-30) and Pomona, Calif., Nov. 12-14.
