The last time LE Tonglet made an elimination run at Maple Grove Raceway was last year in the final round against Andrew Hines. And Sunday, in the opening round of the Auto-Plus Fall Nationals, he will again meet Hines.
It is a rematch Tonglet and the Nitro Fish/Tonglet Racing team hope to win this time.
Tonglet struggled during qualifying and will start 13th. His best run was 6.933 seconds at 192.58 mph. Hines is No. 4 with a run of 6.845 at 193.54.
“We just aren’t running as strong as we have been,” said Tonglet, the reigning Full Throttle Series champion. This is the third of six races in NHRA’s Countdown to the Championship playoffs.
Last year, Tonglet won four Countdown races on the way to the title.
