LE Tonglet did improve his elapsed time Friday as qualifying continued for Sunday’s Auto Club Nationals at Pomona, Calif., but the Nitro Fish/Tonglet Racing Suzuki GSXR driver slipped back a spot in the provisional top 16 starters.
Tonglet’s 6.930-second lap at 191 mph was six thousandths of a second better than his Thursday attempt and left him 11th.
“It was a little better,” he said with a smile. “We hope to pick it up more on our two runs on Saturday. If we do that, we should be in good shape for the race.”
The reigning Full Throttle Pro Stock Motorcycle champion would like to move up a few places in points. Thirty points separate number 8 Tonglet from fifth place.
