LE Tonglet hopes for better performance at Norwalk (1 Viewer)

NORWALK, Ohio – Unlike those who keep accurate records of NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series events, LE Tonglet’s approach is more from the personal side.

“As far as I’m concerned,” commented the reigning Pro Stock Motorcycle champion, “we never went to that race in New Jersey.”

“That race” was the SuperNationals three weeks ago and it was a nightmare for the Tonglet Racing/Nitro Fish Pro Stock Motorcycle team. It was fraught with engine failures, a borrowed motor and a first-round loss that followed LE’s impressive triumph at Atlanta.

“We were really bummed out about it,” he said, “but now we’re not. We just hope we don’t have another one like it. We’re just ready to get back to racing.”

The motors have been repaired – including one for GT Tonglet, LE’s brother – and now LE is prepared to recoup some of those lost series points in the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals, Friday through Sunday.

“We’ll have to be more conservative because we won’t have a spare motor this weekend,” LE said. “We’ll just go back to our old baseline tune-up and hope that works out. It’s the same one we used just about all last year.”

The tune-up accounted for five 2010 victories – four in the last six races – and secured the title and Tonglet’s NHRA rookie of the year award.

This is the fifth of 10 regular-season events that trim the contenders to the top 10 for the Countdown to the Championship. Tonglet is fourth with 273 points, 107 behind leader Karen Stoffer.
