Well, if you expect to actually get some sleep while in your hotel, stay away from the strip and Fremont Street.
My wife and I went to this year's 4 wide there. I found a hotel that had great reviews but I was not familiar with where the hotel was located. Turns out it was one block away from Fremont Street. Big mistake. The music was banging until after 1 a.m. every night. And we were on the 14th floor.
But, you will see some real characters on Fremont Street. Maybe you'll get to see the guy with a tennis ball on a rubber band tied to the top of his baseball cap, and he swats it like a cat. I wish I had gotten a video of it. That was the funniest thing we saw in a long time.

I stayed with the Maroney team at the Cannery one time when they ended up having an extra bed. Its on Craig Rd. about a half mile west of I-15. Its really easy to get to the track and you do not have to mess with the never ending construction on I-15. Craig Rd. eventually forks onto Vegas Blvd. at the AFB. The road travels behind the big oval and there is one left turn and then all right turns into the dragstrip. A lot easier than having all of the pedestrian crosswalks you have to deal with coming from 15.

If I have to spring for my own place I usually just find an airbnb in the north part of the city, preferably close to the aforementioned Craig Rd. I only stayed on the strip once, the first time I went because it was actually the first time I had ever been to Vegas period but with all of the overpriced food, pain in the ass to get around and being dead tired and having to watch out for a thousand drunks stepping off the curb at any moment it was more of a hassle than anything. I will only go to the strip or Fremont if I get there the night before or am staying Monday.

Usually Fremont St.
After I leave the track, I'll go to the Experience. Most of the time I've been able to find and enjoy a concert at one of the stages there.
Except for Luxor, I've not stayed on the strip. Luxor was ok with me because the 15 fwy exit is nearby.

We normally stay in North Vegas near Nellis Air Force base. We’ve stayed closer to the strip in the past but we go for the racing more than the strip anyway. It has been relatively peaceful and trouble free, hopefully it stays that way.

It all depends on how much you want to spend and how far you like to drive to the track. My favorite is South Point which is about as far away from the track you can get. Still it’s only a 25 minute drive to the track. Rooms are nice and it’s a safe area. Staying at Luxor this time because we get cheap rooms with our players card. I would avoid the Rio. Used to stay there all the time but the rooms were getting pretty bad. Prior to the pandemic they had a bed bug problem. Not sure if they still do. If you’re flying in, you will most likely need to rent a car to get to and from the track. I’ve heard that Uber runs about $75 each from the strip to the track. Also really long wait getting back from the track.

Always stay on the strip. With no night action at the track, there’s plenty of entertainment.
Also, I’ll hijack this a little and ask if anyone needs starting line seats for fri/sat @ half price. See my Aug 21 post.

1st thing i do when i get to my room is check for bed bugs. You dont want to bring them home with you.

We do as well. We were staying at the Rio maybe 10 years ago. Stayed there many times prior without an issue. On the news while we were there, was a women who was bit over 500 times and was suing the Rio. They closed for well over a year during the pandemic so it might be better now.
Unfortunately almost all hotels get them. Doesn’t matter if it’s a 5 star hotel or 1 star motel. Of course the 5 start hotel will take measures to get rid of them while the 1 star motels don’t.

Wonder if any race teams run into this issue? Bad thing is,they wont be able to switch rooms bc of being sold out... or better yet finding another hotel

Next time you stay there, order a couple pizzas. 🍕 Have one for yourself and lay other one on the floor. Works like a charm.

You learn that trick at the Dandelion Inn? I learned all kinds of stuff the weekend we stayed there.

Homeless guy in my area - nice guy, not pushy with panhandling - sleeps in an area where the rats crawl over him because he has food in his backpack. Talk about the heebie jeebies

Where do people who attend this race like to stay ? The strip, downtown, or in outlying areas ?
We need more info to give you better answers.
Have you been to Vegas (the city) before?
How many nights will you be staying?
How many days of racing will you be attending?
Are you driving or flying?
Etc… ✌️

I’ve been to Vegas many times and I have always stayed on the strip. I think I am over the strip scene and with the F1 race just a few weeks after the NHRA race I am concerned about congestion and confusion caused by the construction of the F1 track so I am thinking about staying downtown or at stand alone casino like the Cannery.

would stay away from strip too cuz of F1 stuff, although if i had endless money and time, i'd be there for F1 weekend. that is going to be the bomb.
and that new digital sphere deal that F1 track will race around; wow that is crazy cool.
