The roller-coaster ride masquerading as the 2007 NHRA POWERade Series season is approaching its remaining three stops for Kenny Koretsky and Greg Hill’s Indicom Electric/Nitro Fish Pro Stock Chevy Cobalt team, giving them several more opportunities to finish with positive performances.
Two days before the Torco Racing Fuels Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park near Richmond, Va., Koretsky, crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia and the crew were scheduled to make test runs at Budds Creek, Md.
“Steve Schmidt’s guys worked on the motors since our last race at Dallas and Eddie wanted to get in some test-and-tune time before we go to Richmond,” said Koretsky, who ran career-bests of 6.594 seconds and 208.84 mph at VMP last year. “We are optimistic going into Richmond because we did run real good there last year.
“Eddie is excited because he feels he has the car working good. In the first round against Greg (Anderson), we ran 6.721 (seconds) in the bad lane at Dallas, and that was one of the best runs in that lane.”
Guarnaccia is looking to recreate the performances from Bristol, Tenn., Denver and Indianapolis when Koretsky was runner-up, a semifinalist and a semifinalist, respectively. The Richboro, Pa.-based driver started 16th at Dallas.
While Koretsky looks forward to Friday’s first qualifying sessions, his attention also will be on his son Kyle’s first NHRA national event in Super Comp. Kyle already has competed in several divisional events.
“He’s done well so far in the divisionals,” Kenny said. “He raced in the (bracket racing) million dollar race last week at Memphis and did okay. He’s ready for the national-event competition.”
The 2007 season concludes with back-to-back races at Las Vegas, Oct. 28, and Pomona, Calif., Nov. 4.
