Knowles Racing Bouncing Back After Hazardous Test Session

March 12, 2008 - Grand Junction, CO – Successful business owner and journeyman racer, Mike Knowles had high hopes as he and his Knowles Racing team prepared for the 2008 season. Unfortunately, a new car, new engine program, and hopes of a winning season were almost all lost this Monday at the CSR Eastern Spring Test Nationals in Valdosta, GA.

With the weekends’ testing cut short due to inclement weather Mike Knowles was forced to head back home with no passes under his belt. Knowles felt it best to leave his team, and head back home while veteran driver Quain Stott filled in behind the wheel of Knowles’ Blown Money ‘63 Corvette.

“ I had a tough upbringing and there’s one thing I learned, if you want to play you have to work hard for the right to play. “My first priority is to take care of my family and the families of my employees and that means being back on the job running the day-to-day operations at Knowles Enterprises,” said Knowles.

With his race team in capable hands Knowles never expected the call he received. “I was in disbelief when I got the call from my guys,” said Knowles. “I know the car is hurt pretty bad but I’m just happy that Quain is OK.”

When Stott neared the finish line after a tough pass the car grazed the left retaining wall then came across the track and took a hard hit on the right wall causing the engine to erupt in flames. The safety crew at South Georgia Motorsports Park was on the scene quickly to put the fire out.

“I’m not sure what caused the chain of events but I know Quain did his best, and I’m glad he’s alright. Right now the car is on its way to McAmis (Tim McAmis Race Cars) for repairs and we’ll regroup, and be back as soon as we can. I’d just like to take the time to thank everyone at the track who helped my guys out after this happened and I’d like to thank my fellow racers for their support. I’ve received several calls and email offering financial support and even some guys offering cars. This group of guys we run with are just the best but, we’re going to regroup and hopefully be back with our program by Houston, if not, definitely Atlanta,” said a determined Mike Knowles.

With the exception of this coming weekends Gator Nationals Mike Knowles, and his Knowles Racing Team plan to run a full NHRA Jegs ProMod Challenge schedule. Knowles Racing would aslo like to take this time to thank the Jeg's mail order company for thier support of the Jegs ProMod Challenge.

The Jegs ProMod Challenge is an exhibition class contested at 10 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series events beginning March 13-16 at the 39th annual ACDelco NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla. JEGS ProMod Challenge races will also take place during NHRA national events in Houston, Atlanta, St. Louis, Bristol, Englishtown, Indianapolis, Dallas, Richmond, and Las Vegas.
