John Zappia and Noonan Racing! Run of the Year Contender

Since we aren't running with any rules my money would be on Scott Palmer in a head to head match race. Fun starts at 2:35 into this video.

It is a legal PDRA car running on the 1/4. A doored car running a low .40 at 265 is bad ass regardless. I guess you are hard to impress.

Anyone can build a car outside the rules to put up big numbers. Take 200 or 300 pounds off of any NHRA legal Pro Mod and they would smash that number. But to what end? What does it accomplish? What impresses me is guys dropping big numbers, in legal trim. I would have been more impressed by that car if it had smashed the 1/8th mile number in competition this weekend with a legal PDRA car in the other lane. Do it when it counts.

Or maybe I am really over-thinking this and they were just having a bit of fun. Nothing wrong with that either. They did put on a show.

It's impressive, but.....

if current Funny Cars are built to make the driver as safe as you can, while going these times and speeds, then what you have here is an unsafe Alcohol Funny car....minus any aero that a FC would need.

now I'm not saying the chassis builder is not doing his job....but there has to be a limit to how much power you can put to the ground in what amounts to a Pro Mod chassis (and we all know how stable those cars can be!)

Speaking of funny cars...The Camaro Pro Mod car likely has a PSI "C" screw blower with at least 125% overdrive meaning over 70 pounds of boost. Since Doug Gordon just ran a 5.37 with a PSI "D" (18% smaller blower) restricted to 92% overdrive getting maybe 44 pounds of boost, his fuel was checked for illegal fuel additives commonly used in outlaw Pro Mod cars and weighing a legal 2,300 pounds can you imaging what Doug would be able to do if he or Annie Whitely were able to run a PSI "C" with 70 plus pounds of boost with NHRA illegal fuel? It would be fun to find out. Any guesses?

Yeah, how about 5.15 at 285? Would LOVE to see alky cars (T/AD & TA/FC) run w/o restrictions. I would bet that an unrestricted T/AD blown on alky could run 4.99 or quicker.

If NHRA ever legalized the C Blower at 125%? Get out of the way......

Wouldn't it take a few passes to get the tuneup right? Probably have to calm the motor down to get out of 1st gear without losing your teeth!

How many plug wires would Jimmy Prock need to pull on Robert Hight's funny car to "calm the motor down" enough to have all the power a 125% "C" on alky would have? The right answer might be a two speed rather than a three, but it would never be to take power away. Back in the late 1990's when we were allowed to run a "D" (18% smaller blower than a "C") at 125% over the Miner Bros experimented with a 2 speed and were the first TA/FC to run 260 miles per hour in the process. So the answer is, if you can't get down the track in low gear, change low gear or eliminate it all together.

Hey Randy what is it that NHRA doesn’t like about the “C”? I say let ‘me have it and at the same time allow an injected nitro version in TAFC. But, that’s a very old conversation...

Cost, supposedly. At least that was their excuse over a decade ago.

Randy, do you think the blown alky dragsters & funnies could run with just a 2 speed trans? I remember talking to a team some years ago (T/AD) & they were thinking that the cars had enough power to run with just a 2 speed. Also, how about auto trannies for blown alky? I know there are a few cars in both classes that run them. Just curious.
