Johhny Athen screwed - nice job NHRA

It was a raw deal for sure...Johnny's numbers from the last qualifying round showed they were back...then this. So frustrating.

They could have factored a clean run at least !

At least they could of added in what it would of run with 1320. OK FINE, maybe it's not 100% safe to say a 4.65 to 1000ft would of stayed together and got into the show fine. AT LEAST RE-RUN HIM! He's entitled to it. I say he should sue them, where's all the money he wasted running that pass. it's prinicipal, not dollars. The NHRA is REALLY FLUCKING things up lately. They need to be looked into!

1. Strausburg deal, at least they corrected their half assed system, although Mike was guilty of not being 100% to policy.
2. This deal.
3. All the other races screwed with the oil down rule, no e.t. should be just thrown away
4. DSR shroud deal
5. Troxel in Concord issue, at least she won.
6. All the FC drives who have been screwed due to the body being "lower than it should be" This is no performance advantage. 1/4" 1/8" inch please!
7. All the tree switching business I know many racers have been screwed by that or tree malfunctions. I remember something with Krisher and Edwards.

I just named 7 things this year alone and I am sure there are more. They need to be looked into because they are running the sanctioning body and they answer to no one. Make rules as they go along, and consistantly screw racers.

And remember... Pay To Play! N.H.R.A.(No Hot Rods Allowed) Want's $$$ to play, but won't pay much to go rounds... So why do we do it??? EGO! (Geez we're DUMB!)

The bump was Sidnei Frigo's 5.539. The data said a .46-48. It's NHRA's playground and it was discussed with them. There was no way they would install Johnny in 16th on data, and there was not time according to NHRA to have a re-run. It stinks but that's racing.

I hate to argue but a 5.46 on that run would require a incremental of .78 for the last 320 feet, 1000 to 1320-------- that would mean that Johnny would have had to been on a 280 mph run as Manners 273 mph qualifier was a .817 , if Johnny ran a .78 it would probably be almost 279--280 mph.

And yes I am a fan of Johnny's , it just predictable at that point.

Ok i agree with you 100% IF the problem was on the team, driver, dragster, but it's absolute bullshi....NHRA f'ed up...it's there well let me say SHOULD be there responsibility to make it right. You ruined a guy's weekend due to YOUR INABLITY (NHRA) to check if it was set up properly. NHRA has zero class that they would not re-run him at some point, time my ass, you made an error you can make the day 2 mins longer to make it right.

I am just going off of what Johnny told me Monday morning from the data on the computer.

Here's the Press Release for Johnny Ahten....

Johnny Ahten’s Bedtime Story from Las Vegas

Las Vegas, NV - Johnny Ahten has a bedtime story to tell his grandchildren. It’s all about the 2011 Big O Tires Nationals. The story starts out with a pleasant tale of a hard working drag racer and team, with lots of perspiration, anticipation, tire smoke and nitro fumes. Just as the story is getting good, it abruptly ends in a cliff hanger.

Johnny’s race weekend started out with a tire spinning first qualifying round. This was a good sign that the car was making the kind of power the CleanBoost Team knew it had. Second round qualifying on Friday saw good first half numbers during the planned shortened run. The team was excited about the data, and was ready to give the last session on Saturday their best shot yet.

This is where the story begins to make a plot twist. The professional classes in NHRA race to 1000 foot. Prior to Ahten’s last qualifying run, the pro’s had their session. In the changeover, the timers were inadvertently not changed to 1320 feet. Johnny made a good run and it looked good enough to beat the 5.539 bump spot. The problem was that without an official time in the quarter mile, the run was not recorded properly. The bottom line was Johnny Ahten and the CleanBoost Dragster was not able to qualify.

“There is no easy answer,” said Ahten. “It’s like football. A flag was thrown on the play and all you can do is shake it off and run the next play. We had good numbers to half track and I am confident we would have been in the show.”

The story is not a mystery, a tragedy, or a tear-jerker. It is a real world life story with a unique ending. The story will not be forgotten, but a new and better chapter is waiting to be written the next trip down the quarter mile.

Well at least he's positive about it. It's amazing the NHRA sleeps just fine at night. Can you say screwed?

As it says "Reason: Personal attacks"

Then he attacked you, etc. If you want to have a fight, do it in PMs.

Thanks.

I don't disagree with your assessment. But when it gets to "you are the most..." -- on either side -- it's out of line.

As I said, disagree if you like. Just don't get personal. Or if you want to get personal take it to Private Messages.

Thanks.
