why was that race special? Was that the year of the 'otter pops' larry minor teams? You kinda need to provide some substance why you feel that particular race is the 'best ever'. Otherwise why post the poll?Is it TRUE? If not then What is? post here and then I will do a poll putting Phoenix 92 Against All the rest.

I too was at Dallas in '97, leaning on the fence not very far from the finish line when Cory ran 320. I could tell it was different from any other I'd seen, even before the numbers lit up on the scoreboard. It was a perfect pass.I was at Phoenix '92, but I don't know what made that race so special? I was at Pomona '94 when KB ran 311 and 314 back to back! I was at Dallas '97 when Cory ran the first 320 pass. What was the most memorable thing about that race was, After TF Qualifying 12-18 were separated by less than .02 hundreds of a second! In all of my races I have never seen that! The final session was like "Who's gonna get bumped out next?"
But THE BEST National event to my memory has to be the Summer Topeka '95 or '96? When Joe Amato and Blaine Johnson ran the first 4.50 passes in TF Dragster. And John Force ran the first 4.80 FC pass at a 4.88!

And since NHRA updated their site. The irresponsible third party company that did the site broke all links to old pages without even a meta refresh forward to a new page. Which is why the archive.org link above

BINGO! Hands down the greatest National event ever.

For me., its world finals 83'. Last national event at the county. Jim dunn vs Gary Burgin in the funny car final. Chi town clinching the title. The history of that event and the people there made that one very special.
Indy with 'GRANDE PADRE' shaving the beard has to go down as one of the best.
INDY 91 with Pat Austin going for the sweep in TAFC and top fuel, in his first final in G.O.'S car, only to bang the blower in the burnout. That one was great. I think that was mike dunn's FC win too?
For me...most memorable was california nationals 89'. Dennis Forcelle's driving job to avoid hitting Amato, G.O. Flipping the car in round 2, and our super comp team beating Al Padron in round 1 for our first NHRA national event round win! Oh, i was 'grounded' for sneaking out to go to the drive-in movies the night before we left to go to that race, and had to watch all that historic race from the grandstands, and could not work on our car.
Mine is 92 Reading. First TF run in the 4.7's by Cory Mac, first FC in the 5.0's by Cruz, and first PS in the 7.0's by Scott Geoffrion. How many times has stuff like that happened in the same event? it also happens to be my first Nat'l event, how's that for an introduction?
I'm going with the Chief Auto Parts Nationals at the Texas Motorplex, I forgot the year though; either 89 I think, or 90. It was cloudy and sort of cold all weekend and it just seemed like the records we re-set multiple times in every class. Lee Beard didn't have even the slightest hint of grey hair as he was tuning Ormsby's gray-primered top fueler. I think the locals were out in force, too... Brent Fanning, Doug Foxworth, Bruce Allen, Todd Simpson, even Keith Jackson from Denver. That's when that track earned the Moniker as the worlds fastest racetrack.
