How do they do the push starts at the reunion?

Good question. The cackle cars I have seen (in the corral at Pomona, the Grove in Bakersfield at the March Meet, trackside at Indy) could not move under their own power if they had to due to the missing driveshaft.

I believe if they do static startups in the pits, the coupler has to be removed.

Simple. For static starts on the ground they leave the drive shaft out and install it when doing a push start. It's not that hard to do.

After last years CHRR, it will be interesting to see how that part plays out at this year's event. NHRA seemed to have humbled themselves and are asking for a second chance this year. We will not be in attendance due to a family wedding that same weekend.

This has been known for several years now. I have heard through the local media that the City of Irwindale is looking to build another track on the east side of the freeway.

Yes tracks are closing/for sale, but others are opening too. Here is one that opened a couple of months ago; http://sageraceway.com/

I won't mind too much if they build a track on the other side of the street, especially if they put some foresight into the drag strip portion instead of it being an afterthought. But as you and the rest of us here in Kommiefornia know, opening a race track/ drag strip is a monumental task, as they'll get unrelenting resistance from "community" groups, environmentalists, etc.

Yep. And every time they are building a mall they make over-inflated claims of jobs and tax revenue that never pan out. Just like when they shut down Carlsbad. They built a bunch of industrial buildings and about half are vacant.... right next to another industrial park with an equal or higher vacancy rate.
