Snake wasn't holding back..
I sensed a lot of frustration in his interview. It seems more and more drivers are getting very vocal about how they feel, and I hope the powers that be continue to listen.

Big talking about fuel pumps.

Coil talking about possible updates and changes to slow the cars.

Not only are changes being discussed, and MADE - but it's very much out in the open - which that in itself is a step in the right direction.

I was next to the Worsham's pit on Friday and some guy tried to get Chuck to sign a anti 1000' shirt with logo Chuck clearly was angered and walked away leaving it unsigned
On a side note this same guy must have gone up to around 10 people, me included, seeing if they could spare some pot:eek::rolleyes:

The poor fellow probably only started smoking pot a a couple of years ago when The Countdown was announced. I guess crack is next on his list. :p:D

I wonder which 'Mater it was.

Back on topic.... No doubt the Snake voiced his opinion, and there wasn't one person that was interviewed (except Austin Coil) that didn't say they wanted to go back to 1320,and most asked the fans to be paitent.

More than likely they will go back to 1320 in '09,but with a lot of different changes, engine wise,to slow the cars down.

Snake's comments were spot on for me.

During the interview he started out discussing the 1000ft racing but then moved to the state of the sport. He expressed his concern that the car builders, owners were getting too far ahead of their own understanding of the cars they are building.

He also commented about the 15 car fields. Which I am glad that a high profile team owner finally made these comments. Snake suggested that all the expensive, hi-tech stuff required to be competitive is reducing the number of teams and cars at events. He also shared his concerns that the economy is/may be impacting the sport in a huge way. I think he is worried that the fields may continue to shrink

Putting words in his mouth, Snake was proposing that the NHRA in general and the Nitro Class specifically take a step back to move forward. Slow the cars down to 250 mph, use more traditional, proven technologies that are less expensive... get more teams and cars involved and let the tracks and safety experts catch up with the cars.

Interesting stuff to consider

I also noticed that Coil was the only one that seemed to be in favor of staying at 1000'. My immediate reaction was the old Hustler has some kind of trick up his sleeve tailored to running 1000'. I'm not a nitro mechanic so I wouldn't know what it is but Coil doesn't say or do anything without a reason! ;) Could be mechanical...could be psychological. He's up to something. Not saying that with any disrespect whatsoever. He is one of my all time favorites.

He hasn't been having the success he has agrown a custom to in the past at 1320' maybe because he has been only tuning it to 1000' as he stated instead of 1320'! :p

Well yeah before the show has to go to an 8 car field I hope they do something to keep the little guys in the hunt.

We may be looking at the countdown to four as soon as next year.
Everything we are or do has an energy connection and you starve or raise the costs of it and it effects everything.
More of that political stuff that doesn't effect racing! NOT !

For instance I wonder what would happen to the electrical grid in California if six million people plugged in their electric cars at the same time??
Has anyone promoting alternative cars thought of that ?
And we wonder about the brain trust at Glendale !
Oh whatever but I still remember all night qualifying and multiengine Top Fuel cars with the cars four wide and lined up all the way to the pit's .
That may date me a little but I'm glad I got to see them.
Let's see I know a decent comp car runs as fast as Tommy Ivo or Bigs cars from those days but the crowds did not know any better and stood up and yelled anyway when they finally got pushed back and launched.
When the cars got reversers things went down hill from there.
I don't recall very many fat crew chiefs either ! LOL

I find it very interesting that nobody mentioned AA Dale's recommendation to reduce the compression ratio to 6:1 on all fuel cars...

Then you'd better slow everything down, cause 5.50, 260 mph alky funnies, and 5 teen, 280 mph alky dragsters, will show them the front door.

Fours at 300 are pretty much gonna' be needed to play, they have been there for years. Slow 'em down that much, I'll go to divisionals instead, faster cars, Blowers, Nitro (A/FD), and small crowds.

AC mentioned 4 wheel anti-lock brakes. How do you control wheel spin with anti-lock brakes unless everyone will be running traction control devices?

I was watching this tv show last night I think it was future weapons , and they were showing a new device that would stop cars better then a spike strip during a police chase . It was a net that still had spikes but they would lay the net on the road and the car at speed ran over it then the net would rap aound the wheels and stop them from moving but designed in such a way that it keep the car facing straight while it came to a halt . Would something like that work for drag racing , it could be used when a car ends up still going at spead past the finish line
