Indy weather: Isaac will make appearance

If a guy is going to make the show, better do it Friday.

The forecast is for possible showers Friday PM, but it looks like Saturday and Sunday could be a washout.

Can someone clarify NHRA rules now that it's the top 12 locked in? If Saturday and Sunday are rained out, will they take the top 16 in points for the pros, or take the top 16 from Friday?

Thanks

My sisters first US Nationals, and this is going to happen :(

Hopefully it wont be too bad.

top 16 from friday

and if anyone in the top 10 in points isn't in the show after the 1st session they will bump into the bottom of the field. For example, if Force isn't in the top 16 after Friday and Sat/Sun is rained out, he will bump out the # 16 qualifier.

Are you sure? I thought that was only used if no qualfying was able to happen. I think as long as they get one session in then that is what the field will be.

It might make Friday's session a little dull, as teams try to be safe to make sure that they in case in case of a rain out.

Yeah, this will only happen if there is only 1 session. The last time I can remember this happening was the Finals in 2002. The Winternationals in 2009 had only 1 session, but since no one had points there were not any alternates. Here's Graham Light's quote from 2002 :"With regards to qualifying we established a couple of scenarios a couple of years ago if we had one or no qualifying runs. Here we have one run in, but our procedure clearly says the top 10 drivers in each category will be assured a starting position in the field." If there's 2 or more, the top 16 qualifiers make it.

I hoping for everyone's benefit that it doesn't rain sheets and sheets. I've been to too many races where it's been canceled or postponed because the rain just wouldn't let-up.....as big a pain it is for the spectators taking off work, hotel rooms etc....the under sponsored racers really take a hit.

Oh you doom and gloomers! If you follow the weather, the storm continues to weaken. It's not even projected to get past Indianapolis til sunday morning. Friday's forecast is 90 with a 20% chance of rain, Saturday is 82 with a 40% chance of rain, down from an earlier 60%, Sunday is also 82 with a 40% chance of rain, and Monday is back up to 87 with a 30% chance of rain. This is as of noon CDT.

I'm sure there will be some showers here and there and maybe a session rained out (I sure hope not). It'd be interesting to see if it did rain saturday late, what they'd do with the Traxxas Top Fuel Shootout. Probably just roll it into sunday qualifying.

Personally I'd love it to be cool and overcast. It not only makes good spectating weather, but the cars look beautiful and should really fly!

I saw that too Dave, assuming you're referencing weather.com.

Just relax and wait a few days, these Meteorologist's can barley get the next day right and then they try and predict 5 days out LMAO

You can send the tickets to me.....I'll be there regardless if it's raining or not! Hell, maybe I can sell your tickets for enough to buy me a couple of beers, LOL!

Michael, I'm now trying to be optimistic, but it does not look good. Forecast now at 4pm says Saturday 70% chance, HEAVY SHOWERS. I guess the most I can hope for the entire day is washed out then I think I can get my money back!

this won't be anything like 2003 that I will bet! I can remember 2 years in a row at Gainesville it was 50-60% all 3 days and not one drop!

Rain at Indy wouldn't be unusual. Six days in a row without some kind of weather activity might actually be more unusual.

The strangest thing I ever saw on the drag strip at Indy was a single engine airplane. The pilot mistook the strip for a runway at the Eagle Creek Airpark which is located just a few miles east northeast of the drag strip. I didn't see the plane land - it was sitting just off the return road at the end of the track when I arrived for a divisional event Friday morning, but I did get to watch it take off on Sunday. The plane taxied down toward the starting line, turned around and took off!

Bob, in the 90's it rained almost every year! But since '03 I'm curious how many sessions were lost to Rain, I bet it wasn't many!
