Indy Tower

You misspelled "cooling off in the AC because they have been baking in a -20 firesuit for an hour"...
I'm assuming this is a joke, because I haven't seen a nitro driver buckled in for an hour and some notoriously get buckled in late.

Our guy tends to get in early and drives the car back to the pits, unless there is a TV commitment.

still don't understand why the old tower had to come down so early?, or they were planning on having new tower in place for this year's 70th,
and ran into obstacles?

ken miele (class racer) has his standard 'rolling into .....' videos posted for indy already (on youtube). he does quick ride around and shows twin storage containers painted white
with nhra, scag, and summit logos. main bridge over staging lanes also adorned with strange and nhra logos.
check his videos out if you haven't already. i always enjoy them.

Swung through today, the tower is looking great.

is this new tower and the other major improvements planned at IRP paid for from the sale of atlanta?
Closer to the lanes than I pictured from the look of the site last labor day.
i agree. maybe there was discussion, 'what if we ever want to extend over track?'

Based on what? They funded this from the sale of Atlanta.
Paul: Just based on seat-of-the-pants observation. I think the NHRA probably struggled to stay out of bankruptcy during the "Covid" years. They have done a lot of cost-cutting during, and since then. I'm sure the sale of Atlanta brought in some much-needed revenue, but how long ago was that? I think they used those funds just to stay afloat. How long has that Indy tower been under construction? It would have been finished long ago if they had the $$ to do so, in my opinion. A few years ago, they sold the long-time NHRA headquarters building in Glendora and moved to a rented building elsewhere in the region. The headquarters building was probably bought and paid for long ago. Why did they sell it? I suspect it was because they were desperate for the cash from the sale.

Guess you've never had to deal with a planning commission
If it was CA, I could see there would be absurd delays with a relatively small project like this. But IN? They are a Red state that is pro growth and pro business. Can't see the permits being the reason for the delay. I still say it is/was finances.

Yes it is CA and its not the state but the city planning commission who is always chasing new business away with their always changing rules........

I betcha it will be done.....Observation deck looks almost finished.....Glass looks like its in...Probably some kind of metal clip in siding which doesn't take long to install and the interior is probably hardwall with a few cabinets and counters...the rest would be just desks and chairs...Just my guess...
